Woo hoo! My doctor agreed to prescribe Femara on a trial of one month to see if they have fewer side effects,    as 'It's a drop in the ocean to the NHS, and it seems perfectly reasonable after all you've been through'.

No idea if they'll be better, but wish me luck!

  • I'm so pleased for you  .... your monthly battle will now start Unamused - that is ordering 'before' you run out as most pharmacys don't keep in stock and then you have to make sure they order the right tablets arrrrrr

Very Well Done on getting these and more so, I really hope you see an improvement with less side effects.

  • My doctor sent it to my local Morrison's pharmacy two days ago.  I called yesterday to politely ask if it was ready and check the brand. The  woman confirmed that it wasn't a regular order so they'd put the order in yesterday and called today to let me know it was ready.  It was manufactured in Prague by Novartis and imported by S&M Medical. Does that sound right? I'm sure it's fine, but the tablets have a sticker with batch and details in English.

Hi did you get any information leaflet , with ingredients  side effects etc with them in English , if not I would wait to get it and compare with your regular ones     Maybe go bk to the chemist andBouquetsk for it before taking them ,   Some brands have made me feel sick or muscle pain  ,good luck Bouquet

  • I believe the tablet you have is the 'PI' = Parallel Import.
(I think meaning, it is made in a different country and imported into the UK).

If your prescription states UK on it, you can ask the pharmacy to order you the UK version.

The quickest way to know if you have a 'parallel import' the language on the box is in a different language.

The UK version is in 'English'.

J was lucky enough to be given Femara by her GP for the full 5 years - Femara from Poland are less than half the the full UK price so fingers crossed you get on with them better than the generics and can stay on them Thumbsup tone1

Obs you'll still get the 'What! No Oestrogen' effects but you should find some benefits after a while.

Is this a continuous switch, or have you had a break from Letrozole ?  As this may affect how long you have to wait to see if the Femara helps.

    Good Luck with them, G n' J

  • Thanks everyone.  I have only had a 3 day gap. I had a gap of about 5 weeks after my retinal detachment,  restarted the Accord ones, taking them on alternate days,   but after about 4 weeks started to get the odd flashing lights in my eyes and a sensation like pins stuck in it, so it was definitely the tablets affecting my eyes.  At the moment my left eye (right one had the posterior retinal detachment) has become red and sore. Though it could be touching it after wiping down my phone and keyboard with chemical wipes and touching it! I should probably stop for a week to let it settle then,  but worry about stop- start dosing in case any cells lingering about to HER2+ or TN:/

My surgeon told me it was all gone as clear margins,  mastectomy, no LVI and the cancer removed by first surgery.  I had one positive node but not a dot from level 3 clearance after. 2 CT scans and bone scan clear and chemo.  My oncologist said no one cam say that.  She's seen women with small grade 1 tumors with clear nodes get recurrences,  and women  with large aggressive tumors and positive nodes remain clear, which is a good way of making me want to do this!
