Hi

Due to start my radiotherapy next week, had to go for the breathing scan today due to it being on the left side.

I feel really apprehensive about this, strange as it sounds the operations and the chemo did not bother me as much as this!!!

I was diagnosed in October 2019, so it has been a journey.

Any advice, or tips would be gratefully received.

Thanks

Caroline

  • Radiotherapy is easy !  Takes 10 minutes! You just lie there.  At home you keep your boob well loved with cream ( have they recommended any?).   I used E45 and Aloe Vera gel which I kept in fridge.  5 years ago for me so maybe more modern creams now.

  • Hi

The wait to get in the car park and in waiting room is longer than the time on the machine! The people are really nice too.

Just make sure you wear tops that are easy to get on and off and shoes that do too. Necklaces off too, earings and watches ok.

The first couple of times take a while as they take time to mark you up but after that it's a breeze.

I used aloe Vera gel aftersun I didn't burn until half way through but I put it on right from day one afterwards.

Also I used sanex zero products too to bath and shower in. I didn't rub off the marks so that they could line me up next time.

You will feel tired, don't drive, I drove once and regretted it as afterwards I got back and the children were coming out of school and I found it hard to concentrate. I couldn't park properly and I got upset. After that I always got someone to drive.

It's emotional and just draining you really don't realise. You do meet some really young and hunky radiologists!

    Good luck

Hi I have found theMay Radiotherapy Thread very useful. I am awaiting dates . I now feel well prepared with the advice from the group.

    Hugs x

  • I was given a short cape at my first session to wear so wire it there and back but there was a changing room if you needed to dress properly !  I only lived 5 minutes drive away or went braless!  I had a mould made prior to starting as I have G cup do each session they put it on ! I should have asked to keep it for a garden planter Rofl

Thanks for that. Really useful as I was going to drive, as it is a 45 minute drive and I wasn’t sure how long I would be in for

after sun what a good idea

Have to say can’t fault anyone I have met through this journey, everyone has been so nice.

    Thanks

Yes I have been given a ‘gown’, which I might just take with me for the 1st session. But like you say after that I might just wear it....

I definitely won’t be needing a mould Joy

    Hi everyone,

Just had my third of 5 radios. No tiredness or problems.I too use E45 to moisturize.

Keep well hydrated and exercise daily,I've been attacking my huge Yuccas and general gardening.

         Stay safe
