Hi all
hi all
i had a total mastectomy in December 2019(I know nice Christmas present!) and already have lymphodema in the affected arm following my original lumpectomy and all lymph nodes removed. My scar is still really swollen and painful to the point it stops me getting to sleep at night. It is red and warm to touch and felt like the scar was going to pop open due to the amount of pressure. As you can imagine the scar is very unattractive. It’s just so painful. I have spoken to my team and they said my margins were clear so not to worry. Spoken to my lymphodema team and they have suggested taping and has referred me to the pain team.
just wondering if anyone else has experienced this or experiencing. Just feeling very down about this. Husband is afraid to touch me and I can’t lye on the affected side as it’s too painful. Plus I don’t want my kids to see it (11&7)
does anyone have any suggestions? Just have different hair following chemo and now only one breast and an unsightly scar
Hi Loola1208 welcome to the forum. I am so sorry to hear how painful things are for you.
I dont know what could be causing you that level of pain it could be nerve related pain but when you said the scar is red, swollen and warm to touch that sets alarm bells off for me that this could be an infection developing even at this late stage. If I was you. I would be back in touch with the team and ask if someone could see you to have a look at this for you. I know at this time that that is difficult but someone needs to have a look at this for you and telling you that the margins are clear and not to worry is not acceptable so don't let them put you off this is your life that is being disrupted not theirs.
I believe that there are special pillows that you can get specifically for this but I don't know enough about them to direct you to that but feel sure one of the other folks on here will be able to tell you better about that.
Your hubby sounds as if he is being supportive but he is scared as he can see the level of pain you are in and wants to avoid making that worse.
I also want to say to you that one breast or two you are a beautiful woman inside and out and that hasn't changed but how you feel about yourself has and getting back to loving yourself again is the goal now.
Life as you knew it is somewhat different than the life that you had planned but how exciting it could be to carve a different path and make the new path for you and your family.
Take care of yourself and please do come back and let us know how you get on. Meantime Im sending some huge big hugs your way for now. xxxx
I too was very swollen following mastectomy and lymphodema nodes removal. They suggested taping which I did for two months and glad to say it worked on the ex bust area. I now have lymphodema of my arm and under arm and am hoping with time this will ease. I do massage every day on it
good luck and give taping a chance
