Adjuvant Zometa

I am just about coming to the end of my radio treatment and I have a consultation with the oncologist on the 18th of this month.

He wants to discuss me having adjuvant zometa treatment ... However I have read up on the side effects and they don't read well. One of the affects  is problems in the mouth. I have had teeth implants about 4 years ago which went wrong and I have had to have treatment for that prior to any cancer treatment. I did lose one of the implants and over the years I will eventually lose them all. I have had deep cleans in my mouth every three/four months which had to be stopped  when I got the cancer but I do keep an eye on my mouth hygiene.

Has anyone on here had this treatment and if so did you have any severe side effects. The treatment would be every 6 months and my fear is the side effects would not be able to be reversed or I could end up with a crumbling jaw.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have had 3 zometa treatments. I am scheduled to have them every 6 months for 3 years. I don’t get any issues with them. I do see my dentist every 4 months, and hygienist every 3 months, just to keep an eye on my teeth.  I agree that the jaw issues are very worrying, but so it cancer so I decided to go with the oncologist’s recommendation. Good luck.

Thank you Sandy for your reply, I have today managed to speak to my dentist and he said if there were any problems with my mouth it could be managed as they have other patients in a similar situation. He agreed that the benefits from the Zometa outweighed the side effects. I have now decided to go ahead with the treatment.

    Kind regards
