    Hi

There are quite a few here who have Thyroid problems of some sort, but I'm unsure if any have previously had Thyroid cancer.

There are links suggesting those who have had thyroid cancer are more susceptible to also getting breast cancer - I'm not knowledgeable enough to know why (treatment related ?)  but you rarely see cases mentioned of this the other way around...  Breast Ca then later Thyroid Cancer.

Do you think any of the treatments you had for your thyroid could have triggered the Breast Ca ?

I had Partial then total Thyroidectomy 4years ago. No other tx. Thyroxine and yearly bloods

Routine Mammogram at the beginning of February. Now I have had Wide wedge excision and wil Have Radiotherapy.

None of the Heath care teams are able to say linked .

I get periods of concern as I am  not just boobs or a throat. The whole person thinks where next .

  • Hi.I had total thyroidectomy 8years ago on thyroxine since. I had thyroid removed due to lumps which doctors tested and it wasn't cancer. Now I have breast cancer.

Some study found that  people with an overactive thyroid had a slightly increased risk of breast cancer — an 11% higher risk, to be specific. I also found information that levothyroxine use increased the risk of breast cancer. It make my believe there is correlation.

Hi My TFT levels were normal.THyroidectomy due to suspicion of cancer which it was.

My fear is that I am brewing other problems and will not be as lucky next time as both previous cancers have been caught early.

No longer trust my own body

  • I understand how you are feeling. I feel panicked each time I have something unusual and think straight away if it's cancer coming back. I think that feeling will never disappear.

Sound like you are on top of it if you caught it early. Unfortunately there is nothing else you can do apart from keeping close eye on your health. You can't fix something that is not broken . Try to stay positive and enjoy the second chance in life

  • It’s a constant worry for me too, I had melanoma in 2013 which was easily sorted and I thought I’d done with cancer and considered myself very lucky! Last year to the day of my melanoma diagnosis I was told I had breast cancer. Still lucky in that it was treatable but treatment was surgery chemo rads and now 6 monthly zometa iv and ai’s for at least 5 yrs.

everyone assumes I’m worried about a reoccurrence of breast cancer, I’m not, I’m more worried about a further cancer that won’t be as easily found and dealt with.
ive looked up the 6 most common cancers in uk women and I’ve had 2 of them so I’m now way more aware of the symptoms of the remaining 4. I just hope that I’ll be more at ease with the whole cancer shebang as time goes on.

im not booking any appointments for the 10th May ever again!

    Hi,

I had a total Thyroidectomy 8 and a bit years ago due to a suspicious lump that was found in my Thyroid. I was advised that it was changing but had been caught in time. I have been in 200mg daily ever since.

I was diagnosed with Breast cancer ER+ in March.

I have never thought to link the two except to thanks the surgeon who did both op’s for saving my life twice.

    Just a quick question.

I take 200mg of Thyroxine daily

My tsh levels have been steady since my surgery but since the introduction of Tamoxifen I am now under active.
Anyone else had problems like this?

  • I take 100mg daily since my thyroid operation never had problems as well. I read that there can be interaction between two of those but not sure why and what to do about it. Did you ask your consultant???
