Hi

I has a mastectomy on 7 April but as I’m a larger breasted lady I cannot find a suitable bra as all my pre-surgery ones were underwired and there is no way I’ll be wearing them again.

the cancer care nurse gave me some leaflets but the closest 2 shops to me are both closed at the moment and I cannot find a single  suitable bra on any of the websites provided and anywhere else I’ve looked.

I wore a 36H from m&s for a long time but I cannot find anything for post surgery in that size

is there anyone else who had the same issues that could suggest somewhere for me - I’d be very grateful. Thank you

i

  • I think you need to get BCN on your side.  Explain not only the difficulty in getting J cup but also how you back and mentality will be affected by weight imbalance etc. Generally they cannot  get funding to remove healthy breast except on exceptional circumstances

Also find Seamstress and get them to put pockets in your current bra for implant or even make a little bag for implant and attach by Velcro to bras

    Thanks for your reply xxx

I've not seen my surgery consultant since the end of August, I started my chemo on 1st September. But in the meeting where he told me I'd do a run if chemo before surgery, and surgery would be just the left off, o got all emotional and said if you take 1 you take both. I said how I'd feel horrible about my body, not to mention the discomfort of just 1 hug heavy boob. I know my mental health will suffer.

I've been trying to get in touch with my BCN all week, I think I need to discuss it and like you say, get her on board xxx

  • Hi,

I had mastectomy now 2 yrs ago.. last week I had scar revision as too tight and reduction on other side. I was a FF size. They wouldn't do at the same time as mastectomy as I had other things like having my back muscle used for recon and I  had a pacemaker. But I felt very lopsided for two years. The hospital also provided what I call a chicken fillet until I had the other surgery to look even. Not ideal, but needs must. I had a little cry yesterday and the relief of finally looking sort of normal  minus one nipple on the recon side. Think I may end up as a DD  can't tell yet as I'm still swollen.

My hospital provided me a sugical bra, I had a large, which was OK for my original surgery. They do stretch quite significantly though, it's make is Silima which does have a website. They have hook and eye and zip front fastening. They are expensive, however you get a tax reduction because of cancer.

This time I bought Macom post surgery bra,  their sizes go up quite large as well, and are very comfortable.

    Xxxx good luck honey xx

Hi Snowfairy. It's great to hear you have now had your recon and feeling more even. The whole being lopsided for a long amount of time is giving me massive anxiety. A prosthetic in my size, once again doesn't really exist, so trying to look and feel even is going to be a mean feat.

As I've not yet had a proper meeting with my surgeon, I'm not too sure what the options are (other than I know he's already said no to a double mastectomy). If they were to offer a reduction of the right breast whilst doing the left mastectomy them maybe I'll be less anxious and freaked out about the whole process.

I looked at the Macom website and did think they might be an option, as even though they don't do my size, they do bigger sizes than other suppliers and they do look like they give a fuller coverage. I think it might be a case of ordering a load to try and sending back those that aren't suitable.

I looked at the Silima website but theor post surgery bra only goes up to an E cup. Having big boobies isn't al its cracked up to be Laughing

  • Hi  I’m a G cup and had MX over two year ago what I now do is buy firm support non wired bra ( was used to wired ) I then stitch a pocket in . You can buy pockets on line just Google prosthesis stitch in pocket . I tend to use Nicola Jane site for bras but to be honest I now feel more comfortable in a well fitted firm bra with a stitch in pocket .

I went to a specialist shop to be measured the one I use believe you shouldn’t need pocket if bra fits well . I feel more secure with pocket and Silicone boob doesn’t move all day

    good luck

One step at a time and ...Breathe !

Hi. I also had big boobs, 40G and needed a lumpectomy.  My surgeon agreed to do a theraputic mammoplasty,  double reduction taking the cancer at the same time. Two surgeons worked together doing one side each, so it didn't take any longer than just having the cancer side done. I was told that a cancer diagnosis was the only way of getting a reduction on the NHS nowadays.  7 weeks on I am now a D cup and healing well.  It could be worth asking your surgeon if you can have a reduction on the non cancer side if it suits you.

  • Hi I got some from asda they have a sale on post surgery bras and they do bigger sizes to I got 2 for £4 down from £15 they ate so soft and supportive I had my operation back in Feb but I still can't wear wired bras maybe worth a look xx

Hi. Ooh that's an option I could ask my surgeon about. My consultant did mention after the cancer was all gone I would be offered reconstruction and that could include a reduction if I wanted. My anxiety is feeling lopsided for the time between the mastectomy and reconstruction. Been advised it could be over a year. I know I sound very shallow by harping on about how I'll look, but at 36JJ - my boobs (or boob as it'll be after the op) are pretty prominent and not easy to hide. Most post surgery suitable bra's I've found don't go above a H cup, which means my left over JJ cup will be spilling over the cup. I'll look like a medieval buxom wench Smiley Well, on the one side anyway!
