I was diagnosed April 2019 with breast cancer and had two lumps removed in July. Then had chemotherapy, I finished radiotherapy 24th February this year.
Does anyone know roughly how soon after radiotherapy ends do I get checked , I heard you have a mammogram every 12 months now and I haven’t had one since last April. But also it can’t be done for 6 months after radiotherapy, then I read it’s 12 months after radiotherapy.
think I am at that stage wondering what happens now after all treatment ends and when do I know if it’s all worked ? Will I have any other scans or just a mammogram ? It’s hard to get advice because of coved 19 don’t like to call Incase they are too busy and my herceptin has been stopped because of covid , so just trying to get a time frame roughly. I do take letrozole daily.
Thanks
Hi
Firstly well done on finishing your treatment. I was diagnosed in August 2018. I had surgery, chemo, further surgery and radiotherapy which finished in June 2019. I had a mammogram in November 2019 after a follow up appointment with breast surgeon. I think it varies from area to area as to when you get your mammogram. Definitely speak to your Breast Care Nurse if you are worried.

Ok thank you, that gives me some idea of the time frame. I realise it varies from area to area and I suppose the current crisis could hold things up too. I know I should speak to my breast care nurse, just don’t like bothering them while all this is going on. But you have been a great help, thanks for getting back to me.
Hi
I didn't have chemo. so it it is highly likely different, but I was diagnosed in June 2017, Operation for 2 areas of DCIS and 1 IDC (total 80mm) removed in July and finished radiotherapy in October 2017.
I had my first annual mammogram in June 2018, another one in May 2019 (I asked to pull it forward as I was going to be on holiday in June 2019 and wanted results before my holiday), so it was my understanding that it's a year after diagnosis for the annual. I got the impression that they were able to confirm 'all clear' after the operation and the radiotherapy was the 'belts and braces', so I didn't have any other scans until my first annual mammogram.
I am expecting a delay to this year's annual due to the situation in hospitals and backlogs having been built with anything other than coronavirus treatments being top priority for well over a month so far.
I'm guessing you were HER2 and ER+ as on herceptin and letrozole? The ER+ side is being taken care of to prevent it coming back by the letrozole and I'm sure they wouldn't stop your herceptin if they had any concerns whatsoever.
I am sure your BC nurse is still working at her department and I'm sure she wouldn't mind a call. I called mine once and although it went to answerphone, the department called me back. They are still doing their job role, so don't be worried about given them a quick call as it's now a year since you were originally diagnosed.
Best wishes,
Hello Lesley, thank you so much for answering. Yes I was looking for a rough idea of when my first mammogram was after diagnosis . It’s great to know other peoples timelines, like you say it could be a little different and of course, covid 19 changes everything. Yes I was HER2 positive and ER +
you are right though, I am going to call my breast care nurse today. I was worried Incase they are busy. Silly really because they are so nice. Just strange times we are living in.
take care
