Hi
My mum has been diagnosed recently with breast cancer and due to the current circumstances they cancelled her operation for now and she is on letrizol but I don't know what to feed her! What is good what is bad !! She is per diabetic as well and am not sure what she can eat ?:so things like cheese, fat free milk, artificial sweeteners, I would appreciate any advice or if any of you have a diet plan that you can share or even if you can direct me to someone who can help
Hi Wsra welcome to the forum. I imagine that your mum can continue to eat all that she has been before whilst taking into account her Diabetes.
However if you need specific information then I would suggest that you give the Macmillan Line a call and see if they can help or direct you to information which may be of help for you both. 08088080000
Sorry not to have been of more help at this time .
Hi
welcome I am 9 month after diagnosis So had op and chemo and now on continuing preventative treatment .
I am also type 2 diabetic controlled by diet and excercise. Granny59 is right give the line a ring . I've not been on drug your mum on so can't give advise about that .
What I found throughout treatment was I ate normally all I have ever done for my type two is Keep sugar intake low . So where possible swap to low sugar foods .
If you look on product I aim for sugar to be below 5 . But also to keep weight down difficult when most low sugar foods are high in fat .I use slimming world recipes quite a bit also healthy heart recipes and eat a lot of veg meals .
keeping active is the main key for diabetes control I find walking a good excercise . At the moment I'm using wii machine because I'm classed high risk so not allowed out .
I'm sure your mum with the support from yourself will be fine just keep asking questions

I was advised to avoid dairy products. I don't know how scientific that was but I thought.....if I don't try and the cancer returns then will I always wonder.....what if? It isn't difficult to do. I swapped cow's milk products for goat, sheep or plant. My type1 diabetic OH has the same as me. He loves the goat yogurts as they are very creamy. Where possible I use goat's cheese.....the hard is fine in cooking.
For a cup of tea I buy PG tips ....perfect for non dairy.....blend and use unsweetened almond milk. The tea taste is excellent . Almond milk in ordinary tea is an acquired taste though!
In addition to diet I buy paraben free toiletries and alluminim free deodorant. Nothing pricey......all the supermarket ranges have the products now....Timotei, Dove, Garnier, Sandex.......
It may not help at all but I feel happier and so far I have been cancer free nearly five years.
I hope your mum gets her op soon. I heard on the news this morning that hospitals have been asked to consiser treating their cancer patients again so perhaps it won't be too long until she is on the road to a successful recovery.
Love Karen
I shared your reply with mum she asked me to thank you and everyone commented alot she didn't know that the goat milk or yogurt is ok and that would give her more options she is as you appreciate missing the little things she is used to and I'm trying my best to help but didn't know where to start
May all of you have a long happy and healthy lives
