Hello everyone. I wanted to say hi and sort of introduce myself. Originally I went to the docs with breast pain and sent to the breast clinic.
About 8 weeks ago I was diagnosed with high grade dcis which was found by a blind biopsy. 4 were took, only 1 showed it. The mammogram and ultrasound I had at the same time were clear, nothing on them. I’ve since had a contrast mri and 12 more biopsies taken by my consultant and none of them showed dcis either! The hospital are at a loss as to where the dcis actually is and they have sent it away for a pcr (dna) test to make sure it’s my dna. I’ve had a call to see my consultant on Thursday this week. If (and I’m sure it will be) it’s my dna then next and only step is a right side mastectomy.. We’ve (Hubby and i) told our siblings, parents and close friends. Not told our kids (25,22 and 10) yet.. Phew.. Is anyone else trying not to think too much?

  • Hi Jo !

if you read my profile (click on my name ) you will see I had 11mm of high grade DCIS picked up at my first routine mammogram!  They should know the areas they biopsied so so able to identify the area of concern .  I had two areas biopsied but only one DCIS.  I had lumpectomy to remove just this area.  It's almost 5 years since my diagnosis, no treatment after surgery and radiotherapy.

Hiya. Thanks for your reply and congratulations on nearly 5 years free.
It was a blind biopsy so all they know is that is was from my right breast and because of that and the high grade dcis the only option is for a mastectomy. I’ll find out tomorrow.

  • Hi Jo how did you get on today x

  • Hi

I had high grade DCIS 4.6cm found on my only second a routine mammogram so a complete shock. Was told at the time that because it was high grade it meant that it more likely to develop further. Having said that I was also told that DCIS meant that the nasties were very much in their infancy and so a very good place to deal with it effectively. My nodes were clear (as expected) and I had hoped to have a lumpectomy but because of the size and position I needed a mastectomy - I had immediate reconstruction by DIEP. However, it is a huge shock and all quite a lot to take in. At the time of diagnosis I was a nervous wreck and terrified but take one day at a time and don't be afraid to ask lots of questions, both to the specialists and on here. I hope this helps.XXXxxxx

    Thank you.
I am very relieved, lots of questions and big investigation into it at the min.
From what I’ve asked and been told, they other person has already been diagnosed and is receiving treatment which I’m very very relieved with. Thanks again xx
