Can anyone advise a good website for wigs?

  • hi

I got my wig thru NHS ask at your unit . I had an voucher for up to &300  . A girl from Browns of Tavistock came to hospital and I had a fitting appointment . I know they do this at several hospitals around the country.

    They're also on line .

I had my hair cut to pixie prior to chemo then got wig same style . Nobody could tell it was a wig . It was really good quality .

Didnt need to wear it much as it was winter so hats when. Went out and didn't bother when indoors except for Sleep hat .

i finished chemo in Dec . Eight weeks later hair on way back now have a reasonable covering so only wore cap to protect from sun .

Not yet started chemo but am looking forward in case I do need to purchase a wig. All local shops are closed due to the virus. Will hospitals still get someone in to help with getting a wig? I've gone online and am reluctant to get one in case I measure wrong or it's wrong colour. Looking at buying scarfs online as shops are closed. Bloody virus, just whish it would ho away so we can all get on with our lives.

  • Hi

If you can phone and ask BC nurse ,chemo unit or Onco secretary they at least may be able to tell you the current practice . In my area

N East I was referred by my Onco when I was given my treatment plan .  I was lucky fitting was done just after first cycle so really good match for colour and style .

Take photos of your hair now in case you have lost it before you get fitting.

Amazon gave a wide range of hats /scarves at reasonable prices just search chemo hats . Bamboo hats are really good they keep you cool in heat and warm in cold . Once you have decided which style you like you can spend a bit more if you wish .

I used plain beanies and added different colour headbands to ring the changes .

Sleep caps are really good they stop you shedding hair all over pillow .

You may surprise yourself and find the only covering you use is sun cream lol

  • I must admit I was all for getting a wig and was given a prescription and can use it where I please. 6 months down the line it’s still lying here, I just haven’t bothered. I just wear navy blue bandanas when going out (because I mostly wear jeans) and the sleep caps Margaret is talking about when home. Deresina Headwear was good for those.

  • Brown's visit chemo suites too.  They came to the one at my hospital,  though don't know what is happening at the moment.

Can't help with wigs, but you might like to try ANNABANDA (online) for hats. Dont forget to buy wig liners, absolute must otherwise the wig will itch.
