I had a Lumpectomy 10 days ago and it has been a little sore but today my breast feels very swollen and tight. The area behind and around my nipple is very painful with a strong stinging sensation. My skin looks normal as I wondered if it could be a seroma but there are no pink/red patches. Any advice would be very gratefully received.

common side effects after a lumpectomy may include:

    • Pain, tenderness, or swelling of the breast
    • Changes in size or shape of the breast
    • Scars or dimples
    • Numbness or neuropathy
    • Collections of fluid or blood
    • If lymph nodes are removed, lymphedema (swelling of the arms or back) may also occur

It is better to ask your doctor to deal with the side effects. The recovery time may require you to dress a little differently. For example, it’s recommended to wear sports bras during your recovery since they can provide more support (to prevent uncomfortable movement or bouncing) and control swelling.

It’s recommended to avoid exercise for at least a week or more.

    Best wishes!

Hi,   I had lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy February. I got lots of bruising under my armpit about 1  week after also swelling  at axillary scar which lasted 2-3 days. Nothing at my breast area if worried phone breast care nurse tomorrow. I know we all heal differently hopefully someone may have had some of your symptoms to compare with.

    Take care

  • My advice......

If you are feeling something so different and painful suddenly after 10 days, phone whatever contact numbers you've been given. Normally a BCN but I don't know if they've been redirected to the virus frontline or your GP.?There must be some non virus medical contacts out there and even if there is nothing wrong.....which is probably the case so don't worry too much. I still get weird aches and sensations after nearly five years........it is so important to have them checked. It's not impossible to be a small infection that needs a bit of help from an antibiotic to clear it.

Hope you get things sorted quickly and get back to healing.......

    Love Karen
