Hi

So happy to be able to say op went ahead only 1 day later than expected. My fear had been a delay due to Covid.

Discomfort only being managed with just paracetamol.

numbness in upper arm is weird . How long does this generally last?

Only bruising so far is at numerous site of attempts by anaesthetics to get venflon in

Hope you all are having a safe and peaceful Easter

  • Hi , great news that it all went ahead, must be such a relief! I seem to remember the numbness carried on for quite a while, followed by a sort of carpet burn feeling, mainly to the side of my armpit and top of my arm. Odd sensations but apparently quite normal. Good you don’t have bruising, I had loads - quite the unicorn effect with pretty much a rainbow range of colours, as the bruises changed colour and added to the blue patch. I also managed just with paracetamol but would have taken stronger stuff if needed.

Wishing you well with healing, so glad for you that it’s done. Love and hugs. HFxx

  • Hello ,

I to am pleased to hear your operation went ahead.  It is such a difficult time for most and each will depend on how their hospital and staff are with the current crisis the world is in.  This is such a terrible time for all, the waiting, the not knowing 'which is for the best' - my only thought to this.... we know the one could take us within weeks - so for this reason alone we need to keep a clear mind that our Doctors, Consultants and Nurses will do the very best for the best outcome.

Now then..... I bet you are so relieved this operation is done.... you know what.... you may only need paracetamol!!! I had a lumpectomy with combined radiotherapy and I was so expecting to need lots of medication.... how wrong was I, I think it was paracetamol for the first day or two. I could not believe that so much could be done 'with no pain'!!! My only site of pain that was not pain 'as pain' it was a 'strange soreness' that would really sting, it didn't hurt - it stung and this was where the lympnode was taken from.  The actual lumpectomy site was virtually pain free..... I did make sure I did has I had been told 'not to do anything or over use my arm for the first few days and weeks' - just do the exercises.... fingers walking up the wall and back down.

Now you mention bruising - or lack of it, I too didn't have any bruising, again, I wondered about this when I had read that so many other of our ladies have had a lot of bruising... I waited and waited... nothing - to the point that if I couldn't see that my boob was smaller or that I hadn't had the stitches to see.... okay now that's another story as no actual 'outside' stitches' - I had the 'stera-stitches' that look like sticky tape; I could of easily 'questioned if I'd actually had an operation.  I never had the 'blue' wee or blue in my boob either - when the other ladies have talked of this it has made me wonder about my own.

Wishing you a trouble free recovery - please take it easy.... as I was told please remember, you might not feel like it, especially with such good healing - please remember 'you have had a very big operation - major surgery! So please take it easy.

Sending love and hugs to all - Take it one day at a time xxxx

I'm hoping this makes sense - only my mind says one thing and my fingers type whatever they like x
  • Hi so glad your op went ahead. I’m almost 4 weeks down the line. I didn’t need painkillers either although I was uncomfortable sometimes. I had no bruising but did have a bit of swelling, in fact I still have it, I also still have the numbness under the arm. Hopefully that will disappear in time.

Hope you continue to have a good recovery. Take care and rest up! x
