Hi all I'm new to this not really sure how it works. First chemo was last friday and hasn't seemed to bad until the dread mouth ulcers and sore gums also intense itching on arms which I've taken antihistamine for. Not been sleeping to well either is this common? Hoping I continue to not have to many problems xx
Hi.....At my unit I was given a mouthwash( alcohol free) to use twice a day from Day 1 of chemo until a month or so after it finished. I was also told to use it more frequently if my mouth tingled or felt sore. I followed these instructions and despite having lots of other side effects, some debilitating but I never had a problem with my mouth. I know you have already started chemo but I don't think it would be too late to try. It might have been coincidence for me but if I hadn't done it.....
Who knows?
I hope the chemo continues to go well. Stay safe during these difficult days.
Love Karen
Hello
What chemo are you having? I had fec to start and now I'm on docetaxel and herceptin and perjeta. Yes you are doing right to take anti histamine and ask for difflam mouthwash next time you see your oncologist. I suffer with a very sore tongue and painful mouth. I but ice cream and dont have any hot drinks during those times. Rest when you need to xxx
Hi Karen. I have some normal alcohol free mouth wash but will ask them next time I go. Sorry to hear you had a bad time with chemo I'm not doing to bad on it at the moment but it's only been a week so I'm hoping that continues to be the case take care xx
Hi charlieandlola. Yes I'm on FEC at the moment then will be docetaxel. I have ordered some ice lollies with my shopping so hopefully they will help. I have some diflam spray in the cupboard is that the same as the mouthwash? Xxx

Hi
my story on profile just click on my name to read . I finished chemo in Dec after EC x6 Karen is correct in saying use mouthwash . If you keep a diary you will be able to see a pattern of SE emerge so you will be able to plan around bad days and good .
Everyone is different but usually there are good days where you feel almost normal . I found the SE minimal/ manageable not pleasant but coped
Treatment day is day 1 by about day 10 you can start to feel stronger by day day 15 I used to plan to go to Cumbria to our caravan for a few days prior to next treatment .
Sleep disruption is the steroids that's why there's a thread on here called AWAKE !
mind you my house had the cleanest cupboards ever ...steroid energy .
Have a look on April 2020 chemo thread lots of info and support .Also very useful hints and tips link on first page .
Feel free to ask any questions
