Chemo decision...

My oncologist rang me 2 days ago to see how I got on with the reduced dose of chemotherapy I had to have this time as a result of severe side effects last time. (Docetaxel) hands and feet syndrome I was not very well at all. Anyway my 5th chemo with reduced amount was better but not without horrible side effects too.

He has now contacted me via the phone for me to seriously consider not having the last due to the corona virus... I nearly didn’t have the last one so bad were the side effects and he actually persuaded me to have the reduced amount this time because in his words it was safer to have all 6 sessions.

i know we are in unique times and that we are more susceptible than others, I have made my decision to Stop.. what do others feel?

  • I only had 5 ‘rounds’ of chemo because of  problems - had neutropenia sepsis on the first 4 rounds - each time getting worse and taking longer for my levels to bounce back . The 5th round was a vastly reduced dose and side effects were a lot less but we decided enough was enough and to finish.

Hi there, I think it is better to go with the doctor's advice. As your doctor knows well about your situation.

I hope you'll get better soon. Best wishes!

  • You'll see from my bio that I was in a similar position.  For me quality of life outstrips longevity and given that the peripheral neuropathy could be long lasting I stopped the taxel type chemo.  I think overall this was the most annoying side effect of my chemo experience, I had it very good otherwise.

Personally I would listen to your onc as they know best and you don't want to be stuck with annoying/debilitating hands & feet.

    Good luck

    Sam
