Hi all, my oncologist called me from home this afternoon to see how I was doing and to tell me that following on from recent research I could stop Herceptin now as I've had 6 months (10 doses). I already knew a lot of research had been done to determine whether the optimal duration is 6 or 12 months. She said that as I'd had such a good response to chemo, surgery etc. and no lymph node involvement that she was confident I could stop now.
I'm scheduled to get my 11th dose on Tuesday and after a bit of thought and discussion I've decided to go ahead with it...may as well throw one more dose at it. The chemo unit has moved from Kirkcaldy to Dunfermline as it's a bit more isolated there.
She also said that any newly diagnosed patients are only being 6 months in their treatment plan from now on. Has anyone else had their doses reduced? I'm a tiny bit cynical this is happening during the current crisis but I was aware of the research.
i have also had 10 herceptin and was hoping they would contact me to cancel further ones. Next one due Wed 1st April. To date I’ve had no communication from the hospital.I have concerns as everyone is so close together on the chemo ward where they do the injections and obviously the nurses will have to be in close contact when giving it. I too have read about research stating 6 months is possibly ok now. I’m not sure if I’m more worried about putting myself at covid19 risk having injections or putting myself at cancer risk not?!Did you have your 11th one this week?
Hi, thanks for reply...yes I had it on Tuesday. I get it IV and I'm there for 4-5 hours. I was in a bay with 7 other patients receiving chemo and it took 3 attempts to get my cannula in so I did feel quite exposed. So that's me stopping now after 11th dose...which feels weird as not sure what my follow up will be now. Was also told that my 6 monthly bone infusion, that was due end of June, would be delayed by about 4 months.
I stopped after 12 because of heart issues. 3 years on still here and still clear.
Hope that helps?
Hugs
Karen
