Hi I just started to take tamoxifen. Wandering how others get on with it? How you feel? Side effects?

Hello Sparklers85. I’ve been taking it for a few weeks now. So far I’ve been feeling ok. A few hot flushes every day but I’m 51 so I had them anyway until recently but they’re back now. Otherwise ok. I have terrible anxiety but I don’t think I can blame that solely on the tamoxifen. No sickness.

    best wishes

  • I’m interested in this thread as I may well be swapping from Letrozole into Tamoxifen for skeletal issues.

    what brands seem best, ladies?

Hi, I have been taking Tamoxifen nearly 2 years and so far so good, not had any major issues. I started getting muscle cramps which would wake me in the night but that has improved now I add a bit of salt to my food and take a Magnesium supplement (thanks again for that tip Leolady).

I get night sweats but I did anyway, they are just a bit worse now. The brand I get is Relonchem.

    Good luck with yours!

  • Thank you for all the reply. I am 34 so not really happy with the prospect of early "menopause symptoms" but so far so good.

I just swapped from Letrazole (was on Femara brand) to tamoxifen on oncologist instructions. For me, tamoxifen is so much better. About 80% less joint pain. Body temperature is a little erratic but at least I can move. Teva seems to be my preferred brand. Second month the doctor gave me a different brand and the pains came back, so I went back and asked for Teva again. Pains went away again. I have found that both Femara letrazole and the other tamoxifen brand both contain filler microcrystalline cellulose. (Otherwise known as wood pulp Open mouth).

I have also started taking Tamoxifen, on the second evening I kept waking up with hot flushes and feeling nauseous, I take the tablet after lunch, not too bad during the day, but late evening it seems to kick in, any suggestions?

  • Hi bembridgegirl .

I am taking pills just before I got to bed so around 8pm as suggested by my oncologist. I have hot flushes sometimes during the day but not at the night time.Maybe try to take it in the evening as well and if it doesn't help then in the morning? Some people where saying that side effects like hot flushes etc settled down after first few months .I can't confirm that as I am taking it only for a 2 weeks. Feeling a bit more on the edge now as well but don't know if that's due to tablets or being on the isolation for some time now ;).

Hope you will feel better soon xxx
