I have only had 4 days to adjust to this new normal so please forgive me, I'm not normally this panicky.
The oncologist called today to say that due to Coronavirus they are bringing forward my op to 26th.
Until my MRI on Thursday & potential ultrasound next Tuesday I don't know how extensive the operation will be.
Please help me...what will I need?
I'm starting to freak out. It's all too soon, I was a healthy person with what the doctor thought was a cyst until last Thursday. Apart from having the kids I've never even been in a hospital overnight.
Sorry I just can't process it all
Hi there
i had my op 2 yrs ago with only 2 days notice. I think that was for the best as too much time to think makes you go stir crazy.
it made me feel better as they removed the cancer then I had time to recover and then Discuss my options for treatments.
please don’t panic. You will have all the support you need all through your journey .
stay strong.
you got this x.
Hi ,
the chances are if it’s a straightforward op you might only be in one night, if that!
take in front opening stuff or easy to put on for coming home, usual toiletries etc. I was advised simply that till post op visits from family as I wasn’t even in a ward till post op. Then they brought in phone and iPad and headphones (noise cancelling) for me. I was stuck in a second night as needed the op repeating as I bled lots! But that was just me!
Hope all goes well, will be thinking of you

Hi
I was diagnosed and then offered a cancellation for the next day - so have a small idea of how you are feeling . Your actual operation will consist of a lumpectomy or mastectomy along with removal/testing of your sentinel nodes (varies from person to person from 1 to 5) This testing/scans will give them an idea of if you need a anc , which is removal of all of your nodes. I had a lumpectomy and subsequent mastectomy (won’t bore you with my history but it is in my profile) and just the sentinel nodes removal , the sentinel nodes was itchy and sore for a while , the lumpectomy was also uncomfortable , but with all my ops I never needed pain relief apart from the odd paracetamol.
What you will find is that you won’t be able to lift things/drive for a while (your surgeon will give you details, they are all different) so if you have children will most likely need help.
I think my view precancerous was long hospital stays and lots of surgery , the reality is different , lumpectomy is generally a day surgery and my mastectomy with immediate implant was overnight stay , subsequent diep was longer , 5 days , but I think due to the Coronavirus these reconstructions appear to be being deferred ,not sure if you have been told anything ?
Im sure many others will be on here shortly with lots of good advice, but the treatment is very doable , not pleasant but doable.
very best wishes
jo x
Thank you everyone that is reassuring.
I will be having my lymph node in my right axilla removed but as yet the primary tumour has not been located. CT scan is tomorrow to see if it has spread further and MRI is locate primary is Thursday. As yet no conversations about reconstruction.
You're right. I have got this.
Hi Elmwood80,
I was diagnosed on Friday. Mine can’t be located either as not visible on mammogram or ultrasound. I am having an mri on Wednesday and I am hoping surgery is quick afterwards. My worry is that the Coronavirus delays the op and my cancer spreads/gets worse!
Hope your MRI goes well. Mine is Thursday
Can you have the hormone therapy?
Can you tell me your story. What were your initial findings? Enlarged lymph node on mammogram then ultrasound to gain size and characteristics, if so, what were they? I take it you then had a biopsy that came back cancerous?
To be honest apart from hearing the word Cancer I didn’t really take much else in. They did mention Tamoxifen and possibly other treatments but until the lump and lymph nodes are removed and tested they were reluctant to discuss treatment options.
I don’t know about you but the whole time I was in there my head was fizzing and I couldn’t take anything in!
Hope you are doing ok?
I am worried that this Corona thing will delay my treatment so hoping it’s done ASAP x
I found a dimple in June. Had it checked (mammogram and ultrasound) and was discharged as there was nothing to be seen.
5 weeks ago I found a lump behind the dimple which when checked was not visible on the mammogram or ultrasound. The surgeon did a fine needle biopsy which came back abnormal so 5 core biopsy samples were taken which have shown ER+ grade 1
As nothing is visible the surgeon has requested an MRI so he can see what’s what before he goes in there.
Hi, my story has similarities to yours. I had a bit of pain at the bottom of my boob where my bra line was. I left it for a while & then noticed a slight indentation, had a really good feel around & discovered a softish lump. Thought it was a cyst, hence the pain, but worried about the dimpling so asked to be seen. Mammogram was clear but when I pointed out where the pain was, that area was checked over really carefully. It was when the radiographer started checking my lymph nodes I then started to panic. Got my biopsy results back last Wednesday & was told it was lobular cancer, grade two. My surgeon said that I would need a breast mri to check if there were any other tumours as this particular cancer grows and behaves differently to invasive ductal cancer and doesn’t like to make itself shown, particularly on mammograms. My mri is scheduled for Friday, with the op next Tuesday. At this point in time, I don’t really know whether I’m facing lumpectomy/ies or mastectomy/ies. And the corona virus just piles on even more stress! Just praying that my hubby and I, along with everyone involved in my op don’t go down with it in the meantime. All very worrying!
Hope your mri goes well.
Love Zeto xx
