Ovary removal

Any advice out there?

I am seeing a gynaecologist tomorrow to discuss having my ovaries removed. I am keen to progress and want to make sure I have a clear rationale that I hope will convince him that it is a valid way forward.

I am strongly er+ 8/8, I have injections every 12 weeks which I find painful and a constant reminder of my diagnosis, I have a worrying family history of bc but no instances of ovarian cancer. Injections will continue til I am at least 55 and I have just turned 52....

I would appreciate any other suggestions I could discuss to get a positive outcome....

Thanks

  • Hi Galligirl,

I had my ovaries taken out in November. I don’t have any family history of breast or ovarian cancer (didn’t stop me being diagnosed with breast cancer at 42). I really didn’t want to have the monthly zoladex injections and as I’d be in menopause after ten years of hormone treatment, it made sense to have it done.

it was a really quick operation with minimal recovery time. I’ve got two small scars on my stomach, but they’re already starting to fade. My gynaecologist thought that it was the right decision and I’m glad that I had the operation.

    Good luck today,

  • Thank you....saw gynaecologist to night who seems happy to remove my ovaries.....I am pleased....the injections are painful and I don’t fancy having them for 3 years. They are also a constant reminder of the bc....and from a mental health perspective I need to move on....

So blood test done, appropriate forms filled....need to talk to insurance but in my head it is goi g to take place in the next month or so...happy....relieved....

  • Hi,

I had this done in Feb 2018 when I was 45. I agree, easy op and quick recovery. I had 4 small incisions which are hardly noticeable now, Definitely better than that horrible zoladex injection!
