Hi All

I am on to my 5th Herceptin, first one as an injection. The first 4 were given with docetaxol, cyclophosphamide, perjeta and filgrastim and I had quite a few side effects. Can anybody tell me what I might expect from Herceptin on it's own?

I am currently still taking a quadruple dose of antihistamines two weeks after a massive skin reaction to something in the previous cocktail.

Many thanks

  • Hi

I've had 3 Herceptin injections no4 due next Tuesday . It's a bit hard to separate last SEs from EC but up til now would say very mild SEs.

Firstly if you warm Herceptin bottle up by rolling in hand for a little while it doesn't hurt so much when they inject .

My unit Alternate thigh with each injection So area doesn't get too sore .

After injection I'm fine not light headed so just get on as normal or rather my new slitghly slower normal .

I have been mildly nauseous but don't need meds . Also a bit achy Confounded.back ,neck , shoulders again not much to shout about and manageable. Just frustrating hoping that as I build stamina back up , any will fade . Think it will take a little while for me because of age .

Also been getting sharp pains in wound area but BCN not Flushed seeing Onco at end of month so will ask her if it a SE or still healing pains .

I have heard that the mixed cocktails infusions with Herceptin can be brutal but injection can is expected to be fine .

I had Herceptin injections with chemo every three weeks (Docetaxel and Carboplatin), 6 sessions, and since last November only Herceptin injections every three weeks. And I don't notice any side effects from these. No comparison to SEs from chemo. My echo heart scans were fine since.

    Hi

I've just had my 6th Herceptin injection and can also say that I've had very little side effects, certainly compared to chemo.  The main ones for me were very achy joints, especially legs and my 4th session was the worst where there were days when I thought my legs wouldn't hold me up but this has settled and the last 2 sessions have just been a little achy.

I also suffered from constipation from the first 2 or 3 sessions but found that a handful of nuts (almonds, brazils, cashews) every day was enough to sort this out.  The only other side effect that I think is coming from Herceptin is sneezing, I seem to sneeze a lot in the first couple of days after injection.

    XOXO

Indeed, I almost forgot about this. And a runny nose sometimes.

  • I had 1 herceptin and perjeta so far day before 1st docetaxel.  I sneezed a lot and had stuffy nose that night but otherwise nothing x

Thank you, Margaret. It is a bit weird not waiting for chemo side effects. So far ok so I am hoping it will continue
