I have just finished my treatment (chemotherapy, lumpectomy and radiotherapy) my oncologist has recommended I take Capecitabine Tablets a chemotherapy drug.  Has anyone else taken them?  I am in two minds whether to take them as the benefits are minimal, any advice would be appreciated.  Thankyou

    Hi

I took Capecitabine and they were effective for 20 months. My details are on my profile.
How do you know the benefits are minimal?

    Best wishes Judith x

I was led to believe it was a 1% chance and not guaranteed that is what the oncologist advised - thank you for your reply it’s helped x

    Hi,

I was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer after i had surgery as my biopsie were originally 3/8 er positive and 5/8 pr positive. On the main pathology it was determined that my er was actually negative so i didn't have the neoadjuvant chemotherapy that most people are having with Triple Negative. I do know that the ladies in my chemo support ( on another forum) who didn't get a complete response to the chemotherapy and had residual cancer at the time of surgery went on to have Cape as recommended by their oncologist. It's advised as Triple negative has a higher tenancy to come back unfortunately. I personally think anything to help is possibly worth it but understand the thought of more drugs after chemo for small percentages is daunting. I feel i should have been offered this but don't qualify. If i did, i would definitely take it, even if it was only to gain a few percentages as you may be that percentage that it really works for. Good luck.

I took Capecitabine for 6 months after my initial treatment. I was told it is beneficial for about 7% of patients. That's a very small, percentage,  I agree, but with an aggressive triple negative cancer, I thought it was worth a shot.

It didn't help me, unfortunately, but I still think I made the right choice. I'd feel worse if I hadn't tried.
