Hi everyone, I'm due to start docetaxel on Friday. I know a few people have struggled, and shouldn't stress about potential side effects, but thinking itd be a morale booster to hear if anyone wasnt too bad on it? XXX Also starting herceptin/perjeta tomorrow so busy 2 days!!!
Hi, I had it for prostate cancer, 6 goes, worst thing to me was not being able to taste my food for a week a month. My hair went but came back with a vengeance. Maybe I was lucky but I met plenty of people who didn't struggle with it. It gave all my tumours a good bashing and that's what you want! Take a book or your tablet to occupy yourself. You can also push your drip frame around if you need the loo so quite civilised actually. Best of luck with it.
Hi Cheeboe
ive just finished 8 sessions of docetaxel - 5 at full strength and 3 at 75 percent. I did have the normal SE - hair loss, tiredness, loss of taste, pains (from the injection that goes with it) diarrhoea and constipation ( from the pain killers). But I have made it through - and managed to work (admittedly from home) most of the time. All I would say is listen to your body - rest when you can, take the pain killers when you need them and a supply of baby toothbrushes and codecil for your mouth/teeth. Hope all goes well and happy to talk anytime

Hello again Cheeboe. I am conscious of being a bit casual with my last reply.
Of course there are side effects but they have a fix for them all. You will have anti nausea tablets which are effective. If you get mouth ulcers, fairly common, you will get medication for them. You can ask for a cold cap to reduce hair loss.
After each course they will ask about your side effects and deal with them as above.
The main thing is that chemo is your friend and is going to give your cancer a good kicking. I hope it will turn out as I have recounted.
Good luck Friday.
Thanks for the feedback and . Didn't think your first post was too casual at all
I've done 4 EC which was hard but not as bad as I was expecting. My head knows not to stress and I know I'll be looked after, just needing s little reassurance I guess. I really appreciate your messages xxx
thanks for the good luck. Have you found the chemotherapy chat? Lots of experience and advice on there. I was worried about nausea before I started as I have history of hyperemesis in pregnancy, travel sickness etc but was prescribed 3 types of anti sickness which helped make manageable. Have felt different each cycle but usually 2 days feeling quite tired and nauseated ,then less so each day till day 7/8. Feel ok by day 10 but have been more fatigued each cycle. Found plain biscuits, haribo tangfastics, flavoured water, mints helped with nausea. Ginger did nothing but others found helpfull. It's hard but definitely not as bad as I imagined. Good luck with yours too xxx
Hi ya
I had 3 sessions of it after my 3 sessions of FEC
I had full strength doses....the side effects for me were pains in my shins.....but nothing i couldn't cope with.
I was still working (i worked throughout all of my chemo and radiotherapy)
So although knackered....i still plodded on.
You've got this !!!
Good luck and all the best xxx
Cheeboe I had 4 rounds of docataxel/Herceptin/perjeta and was ok. Flu like aches & pains around day 4/5, no taste and tissue inside of nose was sore! Didn't get any nausea like you can get on EC.
It does the job though, I had a completely successful response and it completely blasted all my cancer. You can do it!!
Continuing with Herceptin & perjeta now until October, don't really feel any side effects at all.
Good luck! x
Lucy-B and thanks so much for replying. Glad you did ok on docetaxel, it really helps to hear some positive experiences. Wishing you lots of luck in your treatments going forwards xxx
Had herceptin and perjeta today with no problems, so relieved I'm not allergic!!!
I had 2 Docetaxel. One more to go. After each one on day 3rd started feeling rough with back and leg pain, extreme dry skin, dizziness. On day 5th both times end up admitted to hospital with neutropenic sepsis despite nivestym injection. I feel a bit better from day 10. I am jealous of people with no side effects or close to none.
Good luck with your treatment
