Hi all, I’m new here, im awaiting a lumpectomy, feeling anxious, I have a grade 3 19mm lump on left breast, does this grade mean it’s already spread? Seminal nodes getting checked at lumpectomy time but I am so worried about it having spread already.
Hi Clairecam56 welcome to the forum and so very sorry to hear your news.
Grade 3 doesnt mean it has spread but it needs out and sooner rather than later if that makes sense and they will be checking the lymph nodes to see if there is any evidence of disease there as well. They may want to do further scans so dont be panicked by that as sometimes they do do them but in other situations they dont so its not always routine, again if that makes sense?
I recognise that you will be scared and anxious we all are and we are here for you to chat with and sound off to. However there is nothing in what you have said that indicates any spread.
Have you got a date yet for the surgery?
Meantime Im sending some hugs and keep very busy until you have to go in for surgery and DO NOT look at Dr Google it is not always reliable and can scare you more than any doctor ever could so stay off. xxxxxxxxx
Thank you for replying, it’s 5 weeks from diagnosis for my lumpectomy, I’m worrying that this is too long a wait, but I don’t think there’s anything I can do about that now , 2 weeks today it will be done. It’s hard to stay off google but you are right it is scary and not always accurate. I feel like I am making myself sore by checking my lymph nodes daily! Eek!! What further scans could be done? Thank you for your message. Xx
welcome! In terms of scans, Trusts differ on what you are offered pre/post surgery. I had neo chemo, so pre surgery. I had a body CT & breast MRI. Following chemo an MRI to ascertain pathological response and an ultrasound to specifically look at the nodes. Finally, a CT last week following my surgery histology.
There does not seem to be a standard pattern, a lot of the time there is a sense of going with the flow. I work for Department of Health & am fairly close to the national cancer team so have a tendency to ask too many questions, I trust my team completely but just want to know ‘why are you doing that’ so I am clear in my own mind.

Hiya
Welcome to this amazing place, one thing you will find is amazing advice and support.
I had 2 lumpectomies and all i can say is they are no where near as bad as you think they are going to be, most people manage to go home same day.
As for scans i was scanned to within an inch of my life lol 4 scans in 3 days, MRI, CT and PET all look for different things, but as someone else says different places do different scans. Plus don't think you're having a scan is a bad thing, they like to know what they are dealing with so they can get it sorted and the only way they will find out is through scans.
I never looked at google and coped quite well until half way through my treatment i thought i'd have a look, it scared the life out of me, when i spoke to my nurse she told me the information was old and out of date, so if you can don't look and come and ask questions on here.
Good Luck with your treatment xx
Thank you. I have had a biopsy after a mammogram and ultrasound and that’s all, lumpectomy and senital node op planned 9th March. I guess depending on how that goes the scans may follow.
I hope you are getting on well and you are good asking the right questions. Thank you for your reply.
Hello. Thank you for replying! I like your music taste glad to hear lumpectomy isn’t too bad. I am a day patient so not thinking that they will keep me in unless anything comes up. I think scans would be good for peace of mind. Is chemo guaranteed with grade 3 do you know? I’m kind of coming to an acceptance that it might be. I would do anything to survive it. Feeling so anxious at times and other times I feel ok.
how are you doing now? Hope you are ok x
Hi clairecam56 I'm having EC chemo first once every 3 weeks for 9 weeks then I'm going to another hospital for a different chemo once a week for 9'weeks this is because I have a auto immune disorder called ankylosing spondylitis my cancer is 20mm left breast xx
sezza
you will survive it, the chemo didn't get rid of my tumor totally but it shrunk it so small it couldn't be seen on an MRI but i had my treatment the other way round to you, i had chemo first then surgery afterwards.
Feeling anxious is natural but remember the people who are treating you do this every day, have faith in them.
As for my music taste i saw them live in Leeds on Friday and see them again in Sheffield on Wednesday, bit obsessed some would say lol
