Hi all

I've just been told that I will be having this six monthly for 3 years. I feel really apprehensive having read the information sheet. I have one more chemo then surgery, radiotherapy and herceptin. The thought of 3 years of this feels like a step too far. Has anybody had this?

, this seems to be standard for post menopausal women who are under the Christie - I know a few who are having it, I’m just waiting for an appt for mine as I needed a dental extraction before I had mine x

  • I have had 3 sessions now...and I have been told I will have it for 5 years. It has caused me no issues. Drip for about 15 minutes every 6 months. Bloods taken the day before. I have had no SE. I have been told that it reduces chance of secondaries in your bones which I believe is the most common recurrence.

Good luck with the rest of your treatment.....I’m a year out and, although creaky, doing well....

  • Yeah I'm on this as well for min . 3yr had one next due in May .As others have said standard now for post menopausal to protect bones .

Need to be on Adcal for Vit D as well no noticeable SE with first one .

Me too. I've had 3 so far, and no side effects. Quick trip in & out, and I'm sorted for another 6 months.

I have been interested in this and reading posts about since I was told I have osteoporosis because of letrazole

I have asked about it twice , especially as I heard it reduces chances of bone secondaries, which he said " there is little proof "

I have just asked for a dexa scan , which shows no deterioration , so I raised it again and was told  " we only do this if you already have bone secondaries " which seems like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted , if you see what I mean !!

It is interesting that different centres  do different things !

best wishes to all ….me   x

  • Hi

I was told that Bisphosphonate Zol . infusion would be in my plan on first visit to Onco .Info I was given verbally was it was used to protect bones .  I had to have bloods done to check Vit D level (A Nice requirement )

Then prescribed Adcal to keep Vit D at good levels .

I'm in North East but I know others who have posted are in London so it's getting used across the country . Think I'd ask for more info .

I've had one Zometa infusion so far...a couple of days after I had a sore neck, shoulders, hips etc...I had been very 'achy' anyway since finishing chemo, it just felt a bit worse. I think this is more likely to happen with the first one.

  • Hi

Im with North tees and Hartlepool hospital . Onco is based between North tees and James cook Hospital .

I had my first Zol. Infusion along with no 4EC   But had been told prior that it was on plan and had bone blood test done prior .

IF you are worried about it then have a chat with Onco or chemo team they'll be happy to chat to you .

As far as I can tell it is used as a preventative and protection for bones for between 3>6 year .
