Sorry to hear hear your not coping well.

Have you spoke to your bc nurse?

Maybe you need to be referred to a counsellor for additional emotional support.

I'd recommend contacting the helpline number on here ,  I dont know the number myself . But if you cant find it , I'm tagging  as I'm sure it will be something they will know.

    Take care

    Hi Gina.

I just wanted to say, i felt the same . I was numb the first day infact didnt actually click what had happened, but then for the next week i had all sorts of stomach pains, aches, i coudnt sleep without waking up every few hours or nightmares. It took a few weeks but time heals and it passes, and you realise everything is just because your inner body is in knots even with a brave face.

You will be ok. There is so much support out there, take each day as it comes. Set yourself a goal and you will defeat this.

And yes guys do get breast cancer.

Nearly 2 weeks in after a mastectomy here, Diagnosis was 4-5 weeks back now.

    A.

  • Hi Gina,

it’s a real shock to the system, Andy is right, that even your brave outer face can’t compensate for the panic you feel inside.

Ask for some one to one counselling help (ask sooner rather than later as it often takes a while to arrange)

Think about the ‘AWAKE’ thread too, it’s not all doom and gloom, there’s often someone on there during the night; that’s if you can cope with the screen light.

See your GP for sleeping help, Diazepam is  ok for starters to reduce anxiety but it can be addictive and probably something else might help better, longer term.

Hope you find things get easier over time....

oh, and by the way, the help line number is 0808 808 0000 but that’s not 24/7. It’s 8-8 The staff on the other end of the phone line are lovely, though, give it a try....

    Hugs xxx
