hiya I’m having a mastectomy on Friday followed by a reconstruction and I’ve been asked by my consultant if I’d like him to go across the breast or under the breast and I’ve been umming and aring all week which way would you go? I was thinking under the breast but now I’m thinking it’ll take longer to heal and my bra will hurt then I’m thinking across
just wish he’d have just said “ this is how I’m going to do it” xx
Hi
when are you having reconstruction and what kind as often it’s the cosmetic surgeon’s decision as to where the best place is to do the cut. With my mastectomy and reconstruction the cosmetic surgeon (tongue in cheek) said he was never popular with the breast consultant as the cosmetic team made the breast surgeon do the mastectomy via the smallest hole so the ‘pretty bit’ as they called it was the least affected. But mine was immediate reconstruction so the cosmetic team were there in charge of the proceedings. Xxxx
I’m having the reconstruction done straight away ( same time as mastectomy) my consultant is doing the mastectomy and the reconstruction I spoke with him yesterday and have decided not to go under the breast he said it was entirely up to me he would do what ever I wanted xx
Mine was all done via the nipple area so no scars underneath or across. Everything was done via a small hole - I had a Diep. I had a team of cosmetic surgeons in charge. But if you are having an implant it is a different op. XXXxxx
Thank you for your reply yes I’m having an implant I’ve already had two operations around the nipple so it looks weird anyway only two days to go until the operation and I’m getting scared just wish it was over with now
hope everything went well with yours take care xxx
It is perfectly normal to be scared and the surgical team would be surprised if you weren’t. Any operation is scary. But, they do know what they are doing and will look after you very well. It will all be over and back home before you know it. Wishing you all the best!! Xxxx
Hi
I have mine underneath and had immediate reconstruction, You can’t see the scar much now even without a bra on. I was given a mastectomy or post op bra which didn’t bother the scar as there was dressing one for a while anyway. The mastectomy bras come down further so not on the scar.
Best of Luck on Friday, the staff really put you at your ease.
