Hi
Have just had my 5th round of docetaxel to treat my breast metastasis after breast cancer 3 years ago, after my 3rd round my shoulders and neck started to itch, it wasn't too bad at first but is now driving me mad, I have been told to take antihistamine and use epimax cream
Has anyone else had this itching and did you find a way to soothe it??
Trying really hard not to scratch

Hi Lesley,
I also had docetaxol, but I didn’t itch at the time. Chemo has definitely changed my immune response - I’ve recently had two inoculations and I haven’t had a hot and swollen arm, which is unusual for me.
However, I’m allergic to a few things and I’ve had bouts of skin itching over the years. I’ve seen an immunologist and he recommended ceterizine. He said that I could take up to four tablets in day day (box states one per day). However, it’s worth checking with your oncologist what is safe for you. Some people say that loratidine works for them. I always find that piriton works well, but I only take it at night as it makes me really sleepy.
Take care,
Sarah.
Hi Sarah
Thank you for your reply, have been taking cetirizine but only one a day which hasn't helped, will maybe take more, because I'm doing quite well otherwise I onky see my consultant every 6 weeks so when something pops up it's tough knowing what to do, I was originally due to have 6 doses but am.now having 8, definately need to sort the itching
Hope you are doing well too
Les
