I have just joined the Macmillan community and very interested to read other people’s experiences with tamoxifen. I started it in June after 4 EC90 chemos and 15 radiotherapy sessions, following a lumpectomy in Feb. The tamoxifen seems to have put me into instant menopause with horrible night sweats and hot flushes throughout the day which just feel like someone’s pressing a booster heater button with no warning, all too often! I also feel more tired sometimes than I think I did through earlier treatment, plus I was interested to read other people having joint pain....my knees and hips can feel like an old lady’s some days. I’m doing stretching, weekly yoga and walking lots but feeling old! I’m 53. I’ve also just developed lymphodema in my operated breast. It’s all so annoying as I thought I’d got through the op, chemo and radiotherapy so well, but 4 months after that finished I suddenly feel done in. I’m seeing a specialist physio for lymphatic massage next week. Can anyone reassure me feeling like this 4 months after treatment finished (apart from the ongoing tamoxifen) is normal? A phase that will pass...soon??
Hi
I finished treatment in june 2018, I had mastectomy, 6 Chemo FEC T and 15 radiotherapy. I can say for sure that is takes a very long time to get over all this, I was 54 when Diagnosed. I am still on tamoxifen just waiting to see if they think I have been through the menopause and if so will change over to letrozol. I did get joint pain and blamed the tamoxifen until I started to take a vitamin D3 tablet which has relieved 85% of my joint pain. It would seem that if you are low in vitamin D and D3 you can get inflamation in your joints. I was diagnosed with lymphoedema in my arm and torso surgery side in July this year but its mild, exercises and compression sleeve is controlling it at the moment.
It takes time for your body to recover from all the poison they put into it, dont rush, I was told it can take 2 years and then you will never feel like you did before but it will be a new normal and yes I agree with that.
Take care
