You don't actually need a lot, get a book/ magazine/ puzzle book to keep you busy. Toiletries and dressing gown slippers if your staying in. I made sure I had painkillers at home (paracetamol/ ibruprofen) for when I got home but I was sent home with some. Have some easy meals prepared so you don't have to cook at home. And make sure you won't have to worry about any household tasks when you get home. The week before my operation i had the house clean, bed changed, car cleaned, cupboards stocked so when I got home there was nothing pressing and it kept me busy.

Good luck with the op and don't worry, the staff are always lovely and will look after you. It's always scary when your waiting for surgery but try and keep busy beforehand to keep occupied. Post Op you'll have a good plan and exercises to do. Don't rush yourself afterwards but give yourself time to recover. I didn't realise how tired id be for a few weeks after my surgery.

I had an overnight bag packed for just in case they kept me in. I only had lumpectomy but bruised very badly which caused a lot of pain so had to have morphine. So they did keep me in.

I took jamas rather than nighty cos it's not as much faff if your being examined. Button up top.

Otherwise did the same as jj 39 sorting house and shopping.

Take it easy when you come out. Just because they kick you out pretty quickly, it doesn't mean this is minor surgery. Remember no driving for 6 weeks cos you won't be insured.

    Good luck
