My nails are still so poor. They peel, split, break and feel paper thin. I finished rads last November and have been taking letrozol since with very minimal side effects. Is it still the effects of treatment causing my nails to be so poor or the letrozol? if it's the letrozol, should I be worried about my bones? i had a DEXA scan and all was well but I'm so concerned that this could be the start. Awaiting results from first mammogram so nails are just another thing to cause panic! help x

    Hi Young at heart.

I know chemo has a bad effect on nails but I don't think the metropolis does.

Have you tried opi nail envy. It has done wonders for my mum's nails. No cancer just rubbish nails. Boots stock it.

  • hi I have just started using it. I read some good reports on here a while back so I have filed what's left of them all down and started with my 2 coats. See how it goes. Thank you x

When you file your nails only file in one direction. Don't see saw the file backwards and forward . Try to use a glass file. I think mines Leighton Denny. I've had it so long I can't read the label. Keep your nails short and blunt until they get stronger. Use a good handcream on a night paying attention to cuticles. I love the Body shop hemp one. I love the smell. It's a bit much for during the day but luxurious for night. Put about a 5p blob on and it should be enough to go up your arms past the elbow. It's a bit dear but worth it. My husband uses the lidl one, it is good but doesn't have the smell. When you put your moisturiser on in a morning rub the extra into the backs of your hands, especially if it has sunscreen in it.

Nobody has come up with a way to surgically improve hands, appearance wise, so protect them.

I finished chemo nearly a year ago, then radiotherapy  in February. I too am on letrazole. My nails are exactly as you describe. The ends of my fingers get sore and my nails just don’t grow. I can’t help, just wanted to say you are not alone! xx
