In need of your support everyone, things were going well with surgery x 2 healing well and surviving first chemo pretty well. My partner, Paul, has been brilliant looking after me and my rock. Then yesterday he was called in by GP and told he has skin cancer. At the same time my daughter text to say she was in an ambulance on way to hospital as she couldn't stand up. I just felt sick. Turns out it was severe vertigo or labrynthitis and she's been discharged. Paul's tumour is non melanoma which I believe is good news to some extent. He's got to find out if it's spread to the lymph from his neck. Life just kicks you when you're down. It was bad enough when I just had chemo to contend with.

Oh babs big hugs coming to you ! Just when you think your getting there eh? If it’s any help at all I had melanoma 6 yrs ago, frightened and stunned me at the time especially since 2 gps had told me it was nothing and it was only when I insisted that they removed it at the surgery instead of referring me. I then got a phone call 6 weeks later to say it was melanoma!!!! ( I don’t have a great gp )
luckily the dermatologist was brilliant and all is well and I was discharged last year. I don’t know much but if I can help just ask.
Hope your daughter soon recovers too, what a bloody day you’ve had.
much love
Thanks Ruthie2,
Laura is a lot better now but still a little swimmy so taking it easy, but she's going the right way. I'm convinced it's nothing too serious. I worry because she's in London alone and we're in the North East. Takes 5 hours door to door. I'm worried about Paul because he's had this very small lump in his neck for 2 years and never said anything until a few weeks ago when it started getting a lot bigger. It looked just like an ordinary spot but it kept bleeding so he finally went to the doctor and had it cut out. The doctor said it was a cyst. Now saying it's a carcinoma which may have spread to lymph nodes so they're going to check it out. I'm worried it could have spread to his lung because he's had a strange cough recently and been breathless when walking up stairs. Not like him at all. As you've had one yourself, do you think he'll need more surgery to make sure it's been cut out of his neck? What other treatment did you need? I was glad I was at the end of my chemo cycle because I don't think I could have coped yesterday if I'd been in the rough part. I'd have dissolved!

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!
Bags 1313 .....coincidence ......as I was reading your post I was multitasking and listening to a Dr speaking on radio 4 about the great strides forward that they have made with imutherapy for melanoma / skin cancer , more people than ever are totally cured and the course of treatment is short , so hold on to hope , and good luck / best wishes ....me x
Hi, just a tip re the vertigo/ labyrinthitis. I suffered really badly from attacks that went on for hours (It's Meniere's migraines which is treated the same way) and i couldn't keep the pills down . I take Procloperazine and always threw up before the pills worked well. i was then prescribed BUCCAL tablets which you put in your top lip. They dissolve and then it doesn't matter if you throw up! I'm now always fine within 20 mins of taking the tablets. So if they prescribe Procloperazine ask for the buccal tabs!
Hi Babs 1313,
I'm sorry to hear you have more bad news. I do hope your Partner receives the news that theres no spread and that your Daughter recovers well.
Life sure does kick when you're down, my Surgery was a year ago, Husband already had Parkinson's and then few months ago he was diagnosed with Bladder Cancer and has had Surgery and now having treatment, it makes you want to scream some days.
Please keep us posted.
Sending Best Wishes.
Sorry about your news
Glad your daughter over the first shock and hope she keeps improving . At least you can feel reassured that your Husband is receiving treatment now . Sending big hugs

Hi babs hope things are settling a little now. I had to have another wle which was fine, done as a day patient under local anaesthetic. Then a wait to check the margins and depth etc to see if further procedures such snlb were needed. No scan or anything at all,
Luckily nothing else was needed and I just had regular (ish) check ups. It did take me a good 3 yrs to stop thinking about melanoma every single day tho, but we all know about that!
Hopefully your hubby will just need a further op to check that they’ve got it all and there’s no lymph node involved, but even if there is, the outlook is very good for melanoma and skin cancers these days.
Much love xx
Thanks Ruthie2,
We've got over the initial shock now and started to rationalize it. Hopefully it'll all go according to plan like you've described. No point getting my knickers in a twist. Got my second FEC on Wednesday and I just need to concentrate on getting through that. Thanks for sharing. Have told Paul what you've said and he seems happier about it.
