Hi

i have breast cancer I was told the op would be to remove the lump, a couple of lymph nodes and radiotherapy however they have now picked up calcifications, anyone any experience of this, does this mean they will remove more than just the lump?

  • Hi

my story is on profile .

Briefly I was called back from routine mammogram because of cacification . On screen it looks a bit like white confetti spread around an area . I was told can show on most tests but non serious but can change to  pre cancerous and then cancer.

    There was no lump !

    It only showed on mammogram!

didnt show on ultra sound !

    surgeon couldn't find it !

Biopsies proved positive with an area of 50mm  after second biopsy it was shown to be 35 mm cancer but changes in  a 15mm area that had been there in 2016 .

my surgeon works on 40mm for recommended masectomy but did offer lumpectomy I made the decision for masectomy as second area was already changing meaning as far as I was concerned it was 50 mm .

this is my story and we are all different.

I'm older than you and mentally was ok about losing breast .

You need to ask questions was cacification on previous screening ? Has it changed? What size ?

Write your questions down so you don't forget trust your team to give you answers I was taken thru to consultants screen where he showed me how they measure .

hope thus helps a little . There will be others along shortly I'm sure to give their experiences .

  • Hi

This link may prove useful to you.

One would assume that as you have a tumor, they would be looking at doing something with these too, but that is purely a guess on my part.
