Hi besties breasties,
I had my lumpectomy on September 11, 2019 here in Canada. (10 days) My needle biopsy (2 months ago) showed abnormal cells
I have mostly been blessed, very little pain post op. the steri-strips are off and am taking daily showers. Before the surgery, a month before, I got this wacky idea I should paint my kitchen and living room solo as I thought it would be nice to return home to a fresh look. The prepping and clean up took an enormous time. I enjoy DIY projects but this one left me with painful shoulder and arm same side as the lumpectomy. The pain has increased.
Here is my main question: Is it true after the op, one can have pain in the arm and shoulder? I feel easily affected by any emotional issues of others. I am quite fatigued most of the day and have a nap. My appetite is OK
I will meet with my surgeon on September 30th whe he hopes the results will have com through.
Thank you for reading my post,
Henna14

After the masectomy I was given excercise to Do which helped keep movement in arm . Also yes there was pain not first few days but then the nerve block wore of .It took about 6/7 weeks to recover but different op .
My op was 4/7 and is healing really well but can still give pain.

Hello ,
I am sorry you have had to join this group, on the plus side we are all mental and between us have a mind of knowledge.... if only we could remember it all haha.
A couple of things you really must keep in mind..... you might think it is a small operation, however, as I was told, it is a 'major operation'!!
Now the operation is done, you will take more notice of what has happened and will probably start to feel very drained whilst everything that has happened catches up with you. For the last few weeks you will of been running on auto pilot.
Talking for myself, my operation site didn't seem to hurt at all, my pain well an indescribable type of 'soreness' really came from the sentinel node biopsy area. This was a strange feeling, very sore is the only way I can explain it.
Like Northern says you should be given exercises to do with your arm on the operation side, things like 'walking your fingers up the wall' - so it is gentle, going up the walk as your arm ends up eventually over time above your head. If you don't do this exercises you can run the risk of getting 'cording' under the arm, I believe this is a kind of 'tightness' and when the arm is raised it looks like there is a cord under the skin (hence the name I suppose).
Emotionally... you will be affected by many things, everything and anything, your emotions will change in the blink of an eye, from happy to sad, normal to angry, mad at the world and tears for no reason (well we know the reason, but for no reason they will just turn up). All these are normal.
You must make sure 'not to over use your arm' - you have a lot of internal healing to do, nerves, muscle, fat, etc all have to heal on the inside.
Please be easy on yourself and remember to rest xxx
