Just wondered what peoples thoughts were re; elective Masectomy on a healthy breast after previous masectomy and Chemo . . Just dreading the thought of it returning in my healthy breast in a couple of years so want to actto prevent this happening .

I am too considering something similar. I have IDC in RHS and benign bits in LHS.
The RHS requires removal and I want the same for the left, my reasons are slightly different as mine are more for symmetry and want smaller boobs when they are reconstructed.
That said I personally see no issues with what you're doing though worth discussing with your cancer team as I've been told by mine that the cancer is not genetic therefore don't need the other one removed to reduce likelihood of the other one developing bc.
Good luck in whatever you choose to do.
Hi Cencepta
When I had breast cancer and mastectomy 6 years ago I definitely decided to have the other side done as well. My surgeon who I trust suggested it might not be the best time to be making decisions like that and that it was a healthy breast. He also said that I could elect to have it after I had recovered and for a year I was convinced that it was what I wanted. Then I got better and stronger and didn't want to go through all the recovery again and somehow it just became part of me.
Now I am waiting for my one-stop appointment for Wednesday because I have found a lump in the remaining breast. If it turns out to be cancer I would definitely opt for a mastectomy over a lumpectomy. So do I wish I had pushed for it 5 or 6 years ago? On reflection no I don't, because I made the decision that was right at the time for me, with all the information and statistics I had.
I hope you get a lot of people's ideas on here so you can work out what is best.
Take care xx
Thanks MaryQ . Not Mary Quant by any chance are you ?
!! I think she's got about 20 years on me but I did love her clothes back in the day!! Those teenage 60's days...and I did pick the name because of her...not my real one obviously...
