So I’ve finally got my appointment through for Wednesday to see what this lump is under my arm. I’ve briefly read up on what to expect but just want to know personal experiences. I’m super scared and feel it’s going to be bad news as I’ve had a few pains in my breast too.

Im only 34 and the thought of leaving my little one whose only four terrifies me. I’ve also been preparing for being told it’s not breast cancer but maybe lymphoma. Will I see or be told any results whilst I’m there?

Hi there I am really sorry you are having to go through this...even though you don't want to be here, you have come to the right place.  Lots of people with different experiences to give you support.

My local breast cancer clinic does the whole range of tests at the same appointment.  So a Mammogram, an ultrasound and an examination with consultant.  If they are concerned about anything they will tell you and maybe do a biopsy on the same day...some places are different and you may have to go back for the biopsy if needed.  You won't really know anything for certain until the results of the biopsy if you have to have one.  I found everyone kind and understanding, but be sure to go with someone so that you have an extra pair of ears to hear what they are telling you and to give you hugs.

I am just doing this for the 2nd time and my appointment is on Wednesday too and the waiting is so hard.  It would be strange if you weren't scared, but remember to be kind to yourself and try and keep busy with nice things over the weekend if you can.

    Hugs xx

    Hi there.

This bit is hard, it's the worst bit actually. Usually it's a one stop appointment, with three basic tests. Mammogram, ultrasound possibly a biopsy. You would probably have to wait for biopsy result but not always. They might stop at the mammogram or the ultra sound if they can tell what it is. Not all lumps are cancer. Please don't think if it is cancer you won't live a long and happy life. Breast Cancer is very curable in many cases. Sometimes that's tough going but it's not a death sentence.

I'm not going to say you'll be fine, that would be silly, but whatever happens you will cope.

Hugs. We are here to keep you going and support you.

Can I ask how long you have waited for your appointment?

I saw my GP and she sent the referral last Friday so a week until I got my appointment for next Wednesday.

They tried to call me on Thursday but I missed it and they never called me back so I chased them to find out.

  • Hi, as someone much older who has had bc but whose daughter also had lymphoma, I pop into both types of groups, so you’ll see my name around.

i hope it’s nothing too bad, please let us know how you get on!

    hugs xxx
