Morning everyone, well yesterday i visited the gp as i found a pea sized lump in my breast. I also have thickening and my nipple dents in when i lift my arm. The gp is sending me to breast clinic for tests as she is concerned. She has told me to stop my hrt straight away. Im so scared as in 2013 i had nueroendocrine cancer of the cervix. Im worried if has come back in my breast. What can i expect at breast clinic? If they beed to do tests will they do them there and then or will i have to go back. I remember the waiting game all to well and dont know if i can cope with cancer again. Rant over xx
Hi , sorry you find yourself with another Cancer scare, but hopefully it won’t be long before you know, what, if anything you are dealing with!
Most Breast Clinics these days are a one stop! So you will see a surgeon who examines you, then you go for a mammogram (depending on your age), then possibly an unltrasound and finally biopsy!
Then i’m afraid it’s a week maybe 2weeks wait for results! Although sometimes you will have a surgeon who will be open and honest and say if they are pretty sure it’s cancer or not, but they don’t always know and can’t be 100% until they have the results!
All I can say to try a reassure you, is Breast Cancer is VERY treatable! Okay it might not be what you want to go through for a 2nd time, but you know what, you CAN and you WILL cope IF you have too and we’ll all be here to help you!
But first things first, getting you through the appointment! Thinking of you. Sal xxx
Hi LeaB
Well sorry you might be joining the club. This is my second bite of the cancer cherry so I know how you feel sort of.
Th usual routine for breast clinic is.
Mammogram
Ultra sound
Biopsy.
Then you wait for results, which are usually back in a week to ten days. However both times the radiographer gave me clues that it was cancer when doing the biopsy.. the first actually said " If I was a betting man I'd put money on this being cancer". Some people think how unprofessional I just though we'll I've got time to get my head round this before the rollercoaster ride starts. The second ,when I pressed him because of my past experience wasn't quite so clear but not exactly denying he thought it was cancer.
In between these two had had a lump and they did ,mammogram, ultra sound and stopped because it was a cyst. Not every lump is cancer.
So that was my route, very routine these days, but very efficient. I hope your journey stops at the ultra sound.
Hi leab, sorry you find yourself here but you will get good advice and support too, I’ve had cancer previously too but it was melanoma.
as the ladies above say, a physical exam, mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy are on the cards for you, you may or may not need a biopsy.
i was told there and then it was definitely cancer but of course until the results were back they couldn’t say more. I was going to go on my own but circumstances changed and I’m grateful hubby came with me. Think all the waiting whilst I was being done to was harder for him ! I was given a best case scenario of lump out radiotherapy and possibly meds ( I had to ask what radiotherapy was I’m that thick!)
my consultant rang with the results the following Friday at 7.30 at night! He had most but not all through but enough to book me in for surgery and snlb the following Wednesday.
Of course you may not get past mammogram and ultrasound- hope you don’t! But you will feel emotional whatever happens., whatever the outcome . Good luck we’ll be thinking of you xxxx
id rather be helping silverberg polish her red arrow!
