Venlafaxine

Good morning folks, looking for some advice. I have been trying my best to see through the horrendous night sweats and mood swing but I can’t continue - I feel I have run out of the will to fight it.

My oncologist has prescribed Venlafaxine (anti depressant) as he says it has a chemical reaction to help with the hormone imbalance.

Has anyone else been prescribed the above and has it worked

thank you x

Hi - I am on venlafaxine and have been for some time. Unfortunately I don't think it really makes much difference. I am struggling with sweats as well and have tried various things but as can't have anything hormone related (even herbal remedies) our options are limited. I have come to the conclusion that it's something I'm going to have to live with. I have bought an upright fan which does help enormously and constantly have a face cloth with me. Sorry I can't give you better news but I think unless its hormonal its not going to work. Some people say they have had some success with acupuncture but have not tried it myself.

Good Luck with finding some relief.

  • Hi , I took Venlafaxine for about 18months and yes it helped with the night and day sweats BUT then suddenly stopped working! At which point my sweats got worse!! As if you read the side effects 'sweats' is one of them!!

I know what it's like to be desperate and only you can decide if it's worth a try!

My one WARNING is DON'T stop it to quickly if you do stop! As the withdrawal from it is HORRENDOUS!!

GOOD LUCK! I hope you find a solution or at least something that helps!

I'm currently trying full body acupuncture! Watch this space!! Xx

  • Hi Christine i’ve Stuck it out now for nearly 2 years and have resisted taking anything even though my family have encouraged me to try these tablets. Like yourself I say to myself it’s just something you have to put up with and I am normally a very stronger person but I just don’t see any let up and I feel like I’m sinking into a black hole - which I hate and feel like I’m not coping.

I’m going to try them and hope they get me back on an even-keel and will keep the fans going (my neighbours must think I have a jet engine in me bedroom.

    Thank you for your response

  • Hi Londonlass

Thank you for your honest reply, the reasons you have stated are those exact reasons why I have tried not to take them but I can’t keep going. I thought it was a breeze to start with but all of a sudden it was like someone had taken away my ability to control my body temp day and night and my mood is getting more down.

let me know how you get on with the acupuncture i will try anything.

  • Hi Angela (), believe me I understand how you feel! I am now 5years into this living with 'hot flushes'?? Hmmmm I prefer the term tower inferno as the heat/fire starts at the middle and works it's way up!! Then someone switches on the hose to put out the flames..  oh no, sorry that's just me dripping with sweat! Its horrid!

18months without that feeling was heaven and I am very grateful for it! My reason for stopping suddenly was due to GP and Oncologist not being able to decide which treatment was best! So I ended up stopping in a week...NOT a good idea!!

Its definitely worth a try and give it a few weeks to get into your system although must admit I found it was showing positive signs by day 2/3!! Just you wait till that day when you go one full hour without needing a fan, or a cloth to wipe your face Grinning it is AMAZING!!

I really hope you have the same results as me, although I hope yours last longer Kissing heart

    Best Wishes

    Sal xxx
