I'm currently undergoing chemo for BC I have now completed 4 cycles, I seem to be handling it ok apart from day 4 when I am hit with gastro type issues. Immense griping pain which eventually turns to diarrhea. My question is 'what is too much?' This week saw me sat on the toilet in pain, vomiting due to pain, and passing out on the bathroom floor. I was in the bathroom for about an hour before I eventually managed to poop, but I was then covered in sweat and shaking. I am taking lactilose to prevent constipation and buscopan for gripe pains. What else can I do? Similar to this has happened each time, I am so fearful of it.
Hi

First of all welcome and Good morning .
Sorry to hear about your reaction. You don’t say if you have discussed this with your team ?
Do you have a pre excising bowel condition? Have they told you what to take to help . Sometimes lactolose etc can have adverse effects on me.
I have bowel condition and meds been removed while on chemo . On day 5 of first cycle . Only had mild cramps and some constipation . But without all your painful distressing symptoms.
My oncologist has already discussed with me that they will refer me to bowel clinic if needed.
I’m no expert but we’re going thru enough
sh#t (excuse the pun ) lying on bathroom floor in agony for an hour is too much .
Someone else may be along on here shortly who is experiencing the same and can give you advice .
If you haven’t already then tell your team too much need some more help with it .
Hope you feel better soon
Morning, thanks for Iypur reply, discussed previous episodes with my Oncolgist hence the different meds, first cycle I had none at all, I just did it solo. I have no pre existing bowel conditions. I do have a high pain threshold which worries me as something I consider possible to cope with is not what someone else can.
Agreed sh#t the bathroom floor is not the desired place to be. For the next cycle will ensure it is absolutely spotless and more comfortable.
I do feel absolutely fine now, well as fine as day six of chemo feels.

Hi
Know what you mean I also have high pain threshold and when pain hits you like this it's scary . I'm sure your bathroom floor is clean but perhaps a duvet and pillow could be handy lol I have felt like that in the past .
I have diverticula / colitis so had blocked colon before diagnosis had resection 20 yr ago .Im wary of developing a problem but will just get bowel clinic involved bout meds .
Hope it better next time
Hi LolaGranola, have they suggested stopping any Lactulose? I suffered from horrendous dx during chemo, so never took any of the anti-const meds. You may need the opposite as I lived on Loperamide! Good luck. Xx

None of us wanted to be in this group, but we are glad we're not alone.
Diagnosis 2/8/17 IDC Her2+, 22mm, with spread to several lymph nodes. TCHP chemo started 23/8/17, Mx with immediate, temp recon 24/1/18, rads 20/3 to 10/4/18, Herceptin by IV until Nov 18. RR Mx Jan 23. Still waiting for reconstruction, but opting for simple implants, as opposed to Diep, due to long waiting lists for diep.
Ok so worked it out
DX = diarrhea
Anti-const = anti-constipation
The fog is strong at the moment......
Hi @LolaGranola
Sorry your still suffering . I agree you need to change poo meds there are so many and it can be difficult to find right one .
My condition means I shouldn't get constipated so I usually take a anti inflammatory for bowel this keeps leaning more toward DX . Now I'm off it I'm getting constipated but not taking anything at minute . I get bad reaction to lactelose and senna like you on toilet floor with severe pain but still not passing anything .
See how you go on but don't be too brave ..be kind to yourself and nag for help
