Hi All
When I was going through chemo I saw an oncologist that wasn't my oncologist and didn't deal with BC but generally dealt with ovarian cancer etc. I explained to her my hot flushes and she said fine I will give you a prescription for megestrol acetate 80mg and that will sort it. To be frank she was ver flippant and was almost walking out the door as soon as she arruved...clearly miffed at covering!!
Well I decided not to take it and I know a lot of you will think I am bonkers it's just I wanted to see what the zoladex and exemestane would do to me before throwing another medication into the equation. Fast forward 4 months and the hot flushes have got worse and I am considering taking them. However I feel reluctant and I don't know why. Could it be because my oncologist(s) haven't mentioned this as a solution for me? Is it actualy ok for hormone fed cancera (i presume ot must be!!). Will it actually do more harm than good and why has nobody mentioned this drug before if it is so good (like on here). Would be interested to know if anyone else has experience with this tablet. Not dared to read side effects!!
Many thanks
It's a progesterone type of drug, and according to NICE is not to be used with breast cancer unless progesterone is being used to manage it. Some people have PR+ cancers (mine was 8/8 PR+) so I'd check with your normal oncologist. The NICE link is here
