5 years since my lumpectomy and lymph node clearance  I’ve noticed my rib cage is a purple colour like bruising and the area my bra touches has swelling I’m assuming lymphedema has anyone else had it in this area?

  • Been to doctors and it’s cellulitis I have

  • Hi , good you’ve had it diagnosed quickly, assume you are on antibiotics? Lympheodema can make you more likely to get cellulitis, I have it in my breast, post lumpectomy and radiotherapy. Bra straps and seams leave indentations on that side, not the other. I had a referral to a lympheodema nurse by the breast clinic after my oncologist follow up, 10 weeks after finishing rads. The lympho nurse was really helpful and advised me about getting properly supportive bras and re exercises to help. She recommended Nordic walking which I’ve taken up and really enjoy, and swimming.

Its good the GP has picked up the cellulitis but I’d ask for a lympheodema referral in case that’s underlying. Otherwise can you self refer back to the breast clinic? I have found them so helpful though I know others have mixed experiences.

Hope it all clears up quickly. Hugs, HFxx

  • Thanks for your reply yes I think when I go back next week I will ask more about lymphedema he was aware as when I asked if cellulitis was easily cured he said a bit more difficult when associated with lymphedema x
