Hi All

I have recently (this week) been diagnosed with breast cancer after going to the GP and being referred with the 2WW pathway to the breast clinic after noticing some changes to my nipple. They could not see anything on the mammogram or USS and it was confirmed via a core biopsy. Now awaiting results of MRI to see how treatment will be decided.

I currently have a Mirena coil and have used this type of birth control for over 20 years now. Should i now have this removed given that the biopsy results state that the cancer is ER/PR positive?

MTIA for your guidance.

    Hi,

I was diagnosed with breast cancer and had a lumpectomy at the end of May and start my Radiotherapy on Monday. Like you I had a marina coil fitted for over 20 years and took the opinion of better safe than sorry as I am also ER & PR receptive. My surgeon didn’t think it would have much impact but felt I needed to have it removed as it is hormone based contraception.

    Good luck Dolly64

Hi Dolly. Thank you for replying. I was thinking the same thing , better safe than sorry. I’ll see if I can arrange an appointment for next week to have it removed. I hope your radiotherapy goes well. I will be having my lumpectomy in the next 2 weeks, all being well with my MRI results.

    Take care

Hi Petals15, I had a mirena coil and was diagnosed with ER+ PR+ IDC. My breast surgeon advised me to have it removed.

Thank you both for your reply’s. Apologises for the late reply but I have been recovering from my WLE and SLNB. I had it a week ago and should have the results by next weekend. I have arranged an appointment to discuss the coil removal. Unfortunately my GP is unable to accommodate me for 3 months due to the lack of appointments available so I have to go to another clinic for the consultation.

    Take care xx
