Hi I’d just like to introduce myself, i first joined this community way back in 2013 when I was diagnosed with melanoma, luckily it was only in situ & once I’d got over the shock I moved on with my life feeling very lucky!
Unfortunately may this year (2019) I was diagnosed with invasive micro papillary breast cancer with 3 out of 4 nodes involved. This time round I’m using our health insurance, which isn’t quite up to nhs standards especially when it comes to help advice and support, no bcn, no chemo line or book, very minimum drugs etc, which is why I’ve decided to become a more active user. Hopefully when I have questions someone will be able to help me out as I literally have no one to ask.
I’ve had lumpectomy, snlb, and reshape of boob, followed by chemo - I’m on my last of 3 ec next week followed by 3 x Docetaxel. Then rads then possibly node clearance- haven’t decided yet! Then the usual meds.
so far I’ve been fine had a couple of days off work occasionally but more or less carrying on as normal though I’m not keen on the nausea- it just makes me eat loads so I’m piling on the weight which I do not like at all!
Hope that’s ok x
Hi ruthie2! Thanks for saying hello and telling your story. Fantastic to hear that you have been feeling mostly well and at your work! I hope you continue to feel good and the rest of your treatment goes well. I hope the site is able to give you the support you need, please always ask for anything you need!
I'm a newbie to the site just today. My mum had breast cancer for the first time when I was 16 (15 years ago) and 3 years ago it returned. We've also had more family members than we can count have diagnoses, and one aunt I was very close to unfortunately passed away nearly 4 years ago. I've always felt like my life has been split in two - "before" and "after" my mum's first cancer, which was made extra difficult through all the turmoil that goes on anyway when you're in your teens and early 20s. I've only just started to look for positive ways to cope with the cancer rollercoaster after a literal half-lifetime of struggles. My fiance and I are doing a MacMillan Mighty Hike - 26 miles along the Rob Roy Way! - in a few weeks so I wanted to join to get more involved!

Good to ‘meet’ you Karen, hope everything goes well for your mum and good luck on your epic trek too!
I have 4 grown up sons aged 22,24,27 and 29 and a grandson too, my eldest is an advanced paramedic, if you watch bbc1’s ambulance you’ll have seen him at work! Unfortunately it doesn’t help me in getting help and advice tho which is why I’ve joined, I’d love to have a nurse like I did when I had melanoma, he really did help a lot, but I can’t access anything much this time round so it’s left me feeling kind of lost and abandoned!
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
