Hello to all of you wonderful people, who are currently going through radiotherapy and welcome to August's Radiotherapy Chat.

This is a place where you can offer support , ask for advice, receive support and just query anything involving radiotherapy. A couple of quick tips, if you're driving to your radiotherapy appointments each day, or any time, ask if your hospital offers free parking for people going through treatment, or if they have a voucher for a discount off parking fees, which a lot of hospitals do offer. Also, try to keep the area moisturised with a fragrance free lotion, to help with soreness. You'll find want more tips along the way on this thread.

For more tips, heres our Radiotherapy Tips Page and I'm sure you all have some of your own tips to share, and ones that people post that you will find useful.

Heres also A link from the Macmillan Information pages, which also includes a helpful video that some of you may want to have a look at.

This is a link to July's chat for those of you who would like to see how the thread works, or to just have a look back at last months chat and see what you can find out from others. It will be locked shortly from replies, but you can still take a look.

Whatever reason you find yourselves here, just remember you're all so strong, amazing and simply the bravest. You've got me again this month! And we are always here for you. You'll always have your Macmillan family here for you, which includes other members who have helped you and been there for you.

Lots of love, hugs, light and healing to each and every one of you,

Alex xxxx

Hi, I had 6/15 yesterday. I too have various pains and an overall feeling of soreness. I do the braless thing, but i am quite big so although it helps with the soreness i feel the pain is better with one on. So i am doing a bit of both!

what does help is a lot of moisturiser, as much as i can. Drinking loads of water.

    I get the fatigue too.

Hang in there, we will do this.

OMG  I am soooo happy I found this thread!!!!

I started radiotherapy today after being delayed for 2 weeks.

I've had sharp pains and sore boob after just this one treatment. Did any of you get the same?

    Also..

The were playing  'if you like pina colada' while I was having treatment...how are you supposed to keep still when all you need to do is dance???

    Hi Jo,

i had 9/15 today. Yes i had just the same. It seemed to get worse gradually day by day, bearable, just sore inside, achy, the sharp pains stopped after a few days.  Then it seems to have plateaued/levelled out now.

Do talk to the ROs and let them know whats going on. I have big boobs 40E, and I understand that can mean perhaps worse SEs. I am not bright red or even pink. No broken skin

What as helped me is really slathering on loooads of moisturiser. I use Aproderm Colodial Oat Cream off Amazon, it is like Aveeno except cheaper and without paraffin. It is very soothing. I also drink a lot of water as i got a headache the first few times and the treatment dehydrates you.

Hope it goes well. Time soon passes, at the beginning it seemed ages now i can see the end! Any questions ask.

Aaah yes, I have exactly the same size boobs as you! Well at least one boob is still that size

I bought some cream from boots that's SLS free. The sales assistant was lush though and helped me find the cheapest one!

I'm obviously not happy you had the same SEs but you have put my mind at rest. The leaflets and stuff said 10-15 days before any SEs so I panicked (as I frequently do lol)

No long left for you to go then xxx

No not too long! The most awkward thing for me was underneath where boob touches other skin. I found this became irritable, they suggested bra less, mmm not that comfy with large boobs, i found bra less and loads of moisturiser to prevent skin friction if that makes sense.

Hopefully you wanted have that problem, just in case you do that helped. Lying down helps but cant do that all the time!

for my first treatment it was "Spirit in the sky" playing. I did snigger and when they came back in i said, who picks the music, not sure many people would want to hear "going on up to the spirit in the sky"

he said they did look at the music they played but when its a compilation sometimes they sneak through, he said thank goodness it wasn't "disco inferno" burn baby burn lol

I loved the music playing seemed to make it go faster xx
