Hi
I had a mastectomy and reconstruction on the 9th May . My surgeon said she would try and save my nipple but, because I have diabetes that it may not be possible. She did save it but, after surgery when the dressing was changed a week later it was obvious things weren't as should be. so it was soon discovered it was rejecting. Now I have what they call dead skin to come away which is like a hard dark scab.
I now do a dressing of kaltostat and put a adhesive plaster over it. This is suppose to encourage it to come away but this has been going on for a while and not much is happening .
Did anybody ever have this experience ? If so how long did it take before it came away? Maybe somebody else from the health profession can give me some advice on what I could do different?

It's natural to worry when you feel that you're not healing as you should be. I can't answer your question but by replying to you it will nudge your post back to the top of the page where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can.

I'm well thanks for asking. Have had to make a few adjustments to my life to remain as safe as I can but that's a small price to pay to reduce my risk of a recurrence.

I'm glad to hear that your BCN was happy with your breast and could reassure you that there is no infection.
Although it's a couple of weeks before you'll see your surgeon at least you know that you can get in touch with the BCN in the meantime if you're worried.
I wish I could help more but my cancer was a melanoma so I don't know much about breast cancer. However, I do know how worrying it can all be at times and I've had to phone my SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist) a couple of times when I've been concerned about a change to my skin. Luckily both times everything was okay.
