Hi
I had a mastectomy and reconstruction on the 9th May . My surgeon said she would try and save my nipple but, because I have diabetes that it may not be possible. She did save it but, after surgery when the dressing was changed a week later it was obvious things weren't as should be. so it was soon discovered it was rejecting. Now I have what they call dead skin to come away which is like a hard dark scab.
I now do a dressing of kaltostat and put a adhesive plaster over it. This is suppose to encourage it to come away but this has been going on for a while and not much is happening .
Did anybody ever have this experience ? If so how long did it take before it came away? Maybe somebody else from the health profession can give me some advice on what I could do different?
Thank you just worried this is taking to long to heal

Hi sunshine-19
It's natural to worry when you feel that you're not healing as you should be. I can't answer your question but by replying to you it will nudge your post back to the top of the page where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can.
If you don't get any replies you could also post your question in ask a nurse and one of the specialist nurses will aim to respond within 2 working days.
I'm also tagging my fellow Community Champions , GRANNY59 and into my reply as they look after this group and may be able to offer you more specific advice than I can.

Hi Angela
I hope everything goes well tomorrow and that your BCN can either reassure you that everything is okay or sort things out if you should be heading more quickly.

Hi sunshine-19
i cant really help any more than latchbrook already has, when I had my mastectomy they removed my nipple and didn’t replace it. I have been given the option to have a replacement later on but sorry can’t really help. Hope your BCN can help, be sure to tell her how much it is worrying you xx
Hi
The ScriptFan Im not worried about getting it replaced just wish it was healed.
Thank you for you reply

I'm well thanks for asking. Have had to make a few adjustments to my life to remain as safe as I can but that's a small price to pay to reduce my risk of a recurrence.
Looking forward to hearing how you get on tomorrow

Hi Latchbrook
I went to see my BCN today my designated one was away on holiday. I explained to the nurse i thought it would have healed more and she agreed. Although she said they was no infection so wasnt worried. I asked her how long could i expect for to heal. Basically said nobody knows it was a case of how longs a piece of string. Told her my breast could still be very sore and it felt very bubbly at times that i felt as though my skin was so thin.
Unfortunately my surgeon is on holiday too and not back until 29th so ive an appointment to see her on the 30th. If ive any concerns in the mean time just to ring them.
I hardly slept last night as was worried about how bumpy my breast felt i thought there was something wrong.
Thank you for just being there for me it means alot.
Best Wishes
Angela

Hi Angela
I'm glad to hear that your BCN was happy with your breast and could reassure you that there is no infection.
Although it's a couple of weeks before you'll see your surgeon at least you know that you can get in touch with the BCN in the meantime if you're worried.
I wish I could help more but my cancer was a melanoma so I don't know much about breast cancer. However, I do know how worrying it can all be at times and I've had to phone my SCNS (skin cancer nurse specialist) a couple of times when I've been concerned about a change to my skin. Luckily both times everything was okay.
Keep in touch and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
