I was presribed letrazole after my double mastectomy for stage 1 breast cancer last year. I stopped taking it because of the side effects(I only took it for about 2 weeks) and didn't tell my doctor. Am I now at a greater risk to develop recurrent cancer? Anyone have any insight to this? Weeda

  • No-one can say, but you can make a guess of how much it might have affected you based on your circumstances. Have you see the Predict website?

    https://breast.predict.nhs.uk/

You input all the information and it gives you an average over either 5, 10 or 15 years of how much it adds to your chance of still being alive based on these factors, and will tell you what medication, chemo and other treatments add to that figure. These are just the average over everyone though, and some will have less risk and some more.

If it was stage 1 was it a precautionary double mastectomy?

I must admit to being concerned about side effects.when I took tamoxifen it wasn't until near the end of the five years that I realized I was having side effects. Then I had horrific joint pain in my feet.

I've had a lot of surgery on my feet in the last two years and they were just improving pairwise. The thought of going back to pain fills me with dread

I took my 3rd tablet today.
