I had a full 3 level clearance of my axilla 24 days ago, and for the last couple of days feel like some cordlng is trying to develop, along with a hard lump in my armpit. Last night there was sweling under my arm and the outer part of my mastectomy, but more importantly in my upper arm near the armpit, and near my elbow. This was in the areas where its been either burning with nerve pain or numb, and the small area above the elbow has swollen before (last week).
I read that swelling can happen around 4 weeks afterwards, and isn't unusual, but I'm flying home domestically on Tuesday and will be out of London on Monday and Tuesday. I can't decide whether to go to a&e today and have it checked (and ask for a sleeve to wear, esp. on ther flight home) or not. It's burning like nerve pain, and slightly harder on those areas, but it isn't red and I've not got a temperature. Help!
Since you are due to fly , I would get checked out at A & E or if you have a cancer helpline number then phone it. I found Macmillan Utube video of massage for Lymphedema very useful . I also learned an exercise that is very like the birds dance but SLOW! Bringing your should blades together as much as possible , this seamed to drain and reduce swelling , but gently and slowly . U tube is good but only use Macmillan, Breast Cancer Care and Cancer research videos .
Don't feel you are bothering anyone - you are not ! The NHS will be only too happy to help you .
Take care and let us all know how you get on
