Has anyone had this and had any problems with their teeth? I have been to the dentist pre starting treatment and he wants to do some drastic work to stop any future problems so I am not happy. Does the Zoledronic acid make much of a difference?

I had to have an infected tooth extracted before starting chemo (I'd been putting it off, hoping antibiotics would sort it). Started Zoledronic after surgery and RT, and have now had 5 of 6 with no issues.

Thanks Karen,
I have a bridge and a couple of crowns that he wants to take out pre treatment which will leave me with a massive denture and no hope of implants for years so i am really struggling making the decision to have the drug. I know it sounds vain but I really can't face having lots of teeth out on top of everything else.

I think the dentist is probably concerned about the risk of problems with your jaw. My understanding is the risk is very very low but if there is a problem it can be serious. My dentist told me that she would not do anything that exposed the bone unless it was absolutely necessary (I. E. Extractions) and even then there would be anti-biopics etc beforehand. I get my teeth checked before each session and so far so good.

Hi - I am on Alendronic Acid which I think is much the same. I need to have some dental treatment and my consultant has said that need to stop taking it 6 weeks before and for 6 weeks after treatment and should be no problems. The problem is with extractions only and I can see no reason for the dentist removing your crowns and bridge. I would certainly get another opinion as this sounds a bit suspect. Hope this helps
Hey
I don't see why he would want to take those out. My crown has been 100% fine. It was a bad root canal from 30 years ago I had to have removed. I'd be asking for a second opinion on that.
Hugs xx
