Finished treatment - pain in thigh

Hello everyone,

I have a bit of an odd question.  I finished chemo July 2018, WLE Sept 2018 and RT Dec 2018. Had my last herceptin May 2019.  About 3 months ago, I developed a pain in my thigh / knee which I thought was caused by running.  It didn't get any better and so I went off for physio.  After a couple of sessions, not really sure what it was, so I went to GP.  She sent me for an urgent XRAY and the results have come back as abnormal.

I spoke to her on the phone and she says that there is a shadow near the bottom on my femur and that it doesn't look like an injury but could be a bone infection.  She's referred me for an urgent bone scan and blood tests.  The blood test did say query osteomyelitis.

Apart from Herceptin injections at the top of thigh, I can't see where an infection could have come from (and I don't have the swelling or redness that are symptoms, only the pain)?  Of course, I'm wondering if this could be bone mets.

I'm curious if anyone else has had something similar - is there something else it could be?

Thanks in advance x

Hello i'm sorry but i can't really help you out with that, but i noticed you hadn't had any replies so by me posting on here it will bump it back up to the top and hopefully someone will be able to help xx

  • Hi ,

I have similar time scale of treatment as yourself except for the  Herceptin- I only got 6 .

I have had hip pain and getting a CT scan this Friday , with results 1st July . My oncologist told me and has also written to my GP that she expects the scan to show arthritis. I also have signs of arthritis in my hands . Dosetaxel can cause arthritis. I just have to wait and see and hope it is arthritis and  not mets . My oncologist said that she was organising the scan to put my mind a ease .

So just have to wait and see . We never get used to the waiting .

Hope you get better answers soon .

    Love

    Hi,

Just thought I'd update.  I had a bone scan with SPECT last week, it was discussed at MDT yesterday and Onc rang me in the evening.  This scan is also showing something but can't be certain that it's a met as it's not a "classic" presentation.  I asked if it wasn't a met, what else could it be and was told it could be a separate bone cancer or otherwise, no idea!

ANyway - upshot is I'm now waiting for an urgent CT scan, if that doesn't confirm diagnosis, then bone biopsy

  • Good luck xxx

Onwards and flatwards (don't do hills) and keep walking if you can!

  • Wishing you all the best, Luthien. What a worrying time. Hope you get an answer soon xx
