Hi All
My BC is a hormone fed cancer and as such I am now on zoladex injections to stop my ovaries working. I have only had one zoladex injection so far and was in a lot of pain afterwards and for rest of day (but hoping this is because I am on blood thinning injections).
However, I want to start considering other options and as such I was wondering if any of you have had your ovaries removed instead of having zoladex. Did your oncologist suggest it from the beginning or do you normally have to wait a while first. And if you have had ovaries removed how was it? Recovery? Side effects?
Many thanks
Hi
my cancer is hormone led too and have my appointment yesterday to start radiotherapy and have been advised due to my antidepressants I can’t take tamoxifen as not compatible but as I have not gone through the menopause I will need this to be forced to enable me to take the other medications. Yes I can swap antidepressants but if honest don’t want to as have tried others in the past and not had as good a success as have now .
the oncologist suggested injections to start injections or have ovaries removed I really don’t know what to do so would be interested in your opinion here too
Teresa
Hi I had my ovaries removed as I was in between pre and postmenopause. Therefore treatment with meds was difficult. The op was done under general, was key hole and recovery was quite quick. I was back to work after 2 weeks. I had very little pain but fairly quick side effects of having no oestrogen. My hot sweats started within a few days!
I would recommend the surgery.
Good luck with your treatment
Hiya,
I also had my ovaries out Feb 2018 after 6/7 months of Zoladex. Same as for Daisyloo, really. Under general, keyhole surgery and off work for 2 weeks only. Did not drive for 2 weeks. Minimal pain, only a few days on painkillers. I didn't notice any side effects from having no oestrogen as I was used to the zoladex. 4 tiny areas of stitches including one in belly button. You wouldn't notice them unless I pointed them out.
Definitely better than regular zoladex injections.
Cwtches,

Thanks Clare and Gay, really appreciate your experiences with the op. I know that there are risks with operations and General anaesthetic but I can't help feeling that it makes more sense for me, otherwise could be on zoladex for 5 to 10 years. Will discuss with oncologists in due course! It think getting them taken out is the most logical way forward.
