Hi, I'm new to the group, currently recovering at home after having surgery on the 24th April where I had a tumour removed from my right breast and also a sentinel lymph node biopsy. So far scars are healing well, due back to the hospital this wk for my follow up appointment and I guess discuss the next stage of radiotherapy which I'm a bit anxious about.

Hi, I'm also new to the group, I'm seeing the surgeon on Friday to discuss tumour removal and sentinel node biopsy. I'm anxious as to what's ahead. Good to hear your healing well x

  • Welcome both.  Glad you healing well from surgery, if you read my profile you will see I had surgery then radiotherapy in 2015.  I didn’t require chemo so my treatment was quite straightforward.  Radiotherapy is usually completely painless , just can get sore ‘sun burnt’ skin towards the end but using creams through treatment is helpful.  I only used E45 and aloe Vera gel (kept in fridge) but 4 years in there might be better options now.

Hi, I hope Friday goes ok for you. This is definitely an emotional rollercoaster, we have tears for a reason so don't be hard on yourself and allow yourself to cry, I certainly do!

One of the key things for me now is to make sure I do my arm exercises to prevent swelling, drinking lots of water, keeping mobile but also resting.

Take it easy and good luck.

  • Hi and , welcome to the club that none of us planned to join! Lots of support here, shared experiences, hopefully a few laughs even. , there's a May Radiotherapy thread, sorry can't remember the full name of the thread and don't know how to post a link, but you'll find it by scrolling down the discussions. It has useful links to 'top tips' and people going through rads at the moment post there as well as the likes of me from time to time (I finished in January). Lots of advice re drinking lots of water, recommendations re moisturising creams, etc. Good luck with your surgery , keep posting and let us know how you get on. Hugs, HFxx

Hi , I am new to the group having joined today. I had my diagnosis just over a week ago I have one DCIS and another that is an invasive ductal breast cancer both in left breast. I have to have an MRI scan, and then lumpectomy followed by radiotherapy. Its good that you have had your surgery and healing well. The waiting I find is making me more anxious each day. Its good that these groups are available to us and hopefully will help us as we wait for our treatment. Try to keep positive and all the best for the next stage of your treatment.

Hi Tarus76. I had similar procedures done on the 23/4/19. I saw the surgeon yesterday who informed me that the margins weren’t clear. I am waiting on a date for a re-excision. When it rains it points - for me.

  • Hi. I had Lumpectomy and full node clearance in right breast, margins were not clear so had to go back a week later for re-excision, got through it ok just a bit sore and sunburned breast didn’t really have any issues, you will be ok it’s hard but we all get through it got no choice. Radiotheraphy is ok just having to go every day is tiring . Good luck.
