There are lots of helpful pointers on the Chemo Tips blog - what to take, useful and essential things to have at home, as well as lots of other advice. Please feel free to add to it if you have anything else to share that has helped you through chemo
Here is a link if you want to look back at the March Chat which we will close to new posts soon.
Remember - you can do this and we are all here to help you through - one step, then another, then another!
Hoping chemo treats all of you kindly

- first one down! Yay! Fingers crossed that no further side effects will leap out and grab you and that the aching goes away in the next few days. Make sure that you take painkillers when you need to and give yourself time to rest - being stoic is often not helpful in chemo!
I'm okay thanks - permanently tired, but that's par for the course these days! It's a good excuse for napping during the daytime - I can sleep for England during the day, which is okay except for the fact that I don't sleep at night!!!
Hi Haysie thanks for thinking of me! I got through it & kept the cold cap on the whole time too, like everyone else says the first 20 mins or so are the worst as it's getting colder but I find meditatation helpful so I imagined I was on a snow walk which got me through the first bit then you don't really feel the cold it just kinda felt like a heavy headache...I'm glad I kept it on just got to wait & see now.
As for the chemo I'm so tired & emotional but I guess that's normal so soon after.
How are you feeling today?
x
Hi LuckyP. I also managed to get through it and kept cold cap on, but not too sure I will carry on, but that might just be as I don't feel so great today, nausea and sick feeling, but keeping it down. Also very tired. Just dragged myself out of bed a little while ago! Generally Ok I guess. Feeling a bit less sanguine about it all, but no doubt as soon as I feel a bit better will be fine again. Hi
I'm so pleased you got through. Was it as terrifying as you thought? I just don't know what to expect.
I'm also undecided about the cold cap. I just don't know what to do!
Hope your SE's aren't too bad xx
Why do steroids make you so flipping hungry? I can't stop snacking!
HI Nic,
It is very emotional, I was a wreck before my first chemo, I have my 6th/last just before Easter. Have hair loss, barely any taste left, some other minor effects, but no real poorly side effects.
Im sure your chemo team will give you info on your treatment including any other meds you might need.
They usually do your blood pressure, temp etc and will have checked your bloods if you had them done 48 hrs before. They will put you at ease, I shook all the way through my first chemo, it wasn’t the cold from the cap either, it’s the unknown I think.
I didn’t bother with the cap from 4th treatment on, too time consuming for me, I’m now in and out in less than 2 hrs. I couldn’t colour my hair so wasn’t going to go out without my wig anyway lol.
Please let us know how you get on, will be thinking about you tomorrow.
Hugs Tina x
Thanks for your reply. The unknown is so scary.
I've decided not to bother with the cold cap. My hair is fine anyway and I just want to be in and out. Did yours come out in one go or was it gradual?
Xx
Hi Haysie
Hope your first treatment has gone ok?
I'm still super tired and achey but managed to get out for a bit of a walk today so feeling a bit brighter now, think I expected to be able to do too much too quickly & underestimated the side effects...hope yours aren't too bad.
Thinking of you x
